St. James’s Way as the backbone in the process of building a united
Europe (El camino de Santiago com eje vertebrado en la construcción
de una Europa unida)

Target Group + Translation:
The workshop is addressed to adults, giving priority to people who have not participated in any
other similar activity that involves travelling European countries. Prior linguistic preparation of the
participants is required. Another important factor to be considered is the interest of the participants
in the political and social context of contemporary Europe and its sensitivity to the understanding of
different cultural testimonies. Number of participants: 20 + 5 Spanish participants .
Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
Reflection sessions on the history of the continent through the history of the St. James’s Way and
the European dimension of its manifestations; Reflection sessions on the European citizenship
theme; Viewing of of documentaries made in Castile and Leon and Galicia on this subject,
reflection and analysis on their European aspects; conferences / symposium with experts in this
field; visits to exhibitions and places of interest related to the St. James’s Way; trips to towns of the
route especially emblematic; possibility of a walking route between two locations from the Road of
Santiago with an approximate distance of 20 km Programme: Mornings: Presentations by experts
in the field, conferences, discussions on the topic. Afternoons: Documentary viewing material and
travelling through towns from the St. James’s Way. Realization of interviews with Mayors and
personnel implicated in the promotion of the Road. Other Activities: Visits to Valladolid,
Salamanca, Astorga and Lugo, as axes of the French Road of Santiago and the city of Santiago de
Compostela. Evaluation of the activity and delivery of certificates.
