The workshops (conducted in English) are aimed at adults, interested in history, art and the<br />

monastic traditions in Europe, open for new cultures and interested in intercultural education who<br />

come from the countries participating in “Learning through the whole life” Programme.<br />

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:<br />

The values of the Benedictine rule and their heritage are universal – spirituality is strongly<br />

associated with the culture, of which one of the dimensions is hospitality understood as an openness<br />

as well as willingness to enrich oneself on the basis of meetings with others. This is the foundation<br />

for building tolerance and respect for diversity in Europe as well as a room for the exchange of<br />

experiences, mutual understanding of cultures and strengthening of such attitudes. The program<br />

preview: 6 full days of activities excluding travel days.<br />

The workshop will include the following lectures:<br />

-discover the Benedictine trails in Małopolska region<br />

-discover the fascinating world of medieval scriptorium - the legislative history of manuscripts,<br />

letters styles, and the basis of calligraphy and basic techniques of medieval illumination<br />

-discover the Gregorian chant and music in the Benedictine tradition and monastic cuisine based on<br />

traditional recipes and products associated with the Benedictine tradition<br />

Expected outputs are:<br />

-popularizing the knowledge about Benedictine Culture and Tradition and it’s place in the United<br />

Europe<br />

-exchange of experiences, mutual understanding of different cultures, religions<br />

-providing basic knowledge about calligraphy, illumination and gregorian chant<br />

-increase the workshop participants' awarness of historical and modern traditions connected with<br />

the monastic tradition along with the development of local communities in different areas.<br />

-maintaining international dialogue on how to best use the Benedictine heritage to build Europe<br />

open for intercultural diversity (making conclusions)<br />
