Preface<br />

We are pleased to present the fourth volume <strong>of</strong> <strong>Read<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Work<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>Papers</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />

L<strong>in</strong>guistics. It represents work be<strong>in</strong>g done <strong>in</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> L<strong>in</strong>guistic<br />

Science as <strong>of</strong> the current academic year 1999-<strong>2000</strong>, and <strong>in</strong>cludes<br />

contributions from staff and students <strong>in</strong> the fields <strong>of</strong> phonology,<br />

sociol<strong>in</strong>guistics, bil<strong>in</strong>gual and monol<strong>in</strong>gual language acquisition and<br />

language impairment.<br />
