well as qualities of dedication, leadership and<br />
humanity through their junior and senior years.<br />
The cash award is to be used to help graduating<br />
seniors establish themselves in an arts profession<br />
after graduation from <strong>Butler</strong>, but not to be<br />
used for graduate study.<br />
College of Pharmacy and<br />
Health Sciences Awards<br />
*The following is a list of the current<br />
scholarships. Most are used to underwrite<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> financial aid programs and<br />
cannot be applied for directly unless otherwise<br />
indicated.<br />
Joseph N. Allegretti Scholarships. Joseph<br />
N. Allegretti, Class of 1959, established these<br />
scholarships to be awarded in both the College<br />
of Business and the College of Pharmacy and<br />
Health Sciences. The COB scholarship is<br />
awarded on the basis of merit to a junior<br />
majoring in accounting or a related field who is<br />
a resident of Lake or Porter County in Indiana.<br />
In addition, the student must have a cumulative<br />
grade point average of 3.0 and be involved<br />
in an extracurricular activity. The Pharmacy<br />
scholarship is awarded to a deserving pharmacy<br />
major who is a resident of Lake or Porter<br />
County Indiana (preferably Lake County) who<br />
is a current fourth-year pharmacy student with<br />
a cumulative 3.0 grade point average who is involved<br />
in some type of extracurricular activity.<br />
D. J. Angus Scientech Educational Foundation<br />
Scholarship. The primary criterion for this<br />
award is the greatest improvement in grade<br />
point average from the previous year by a science<br />
and/or a pharmacy student. The recipient is to<br />
be an undergraduate who has displayed a good<br />
citizenship record.<br />
Dr. Jennifer L. Ash Memorial Endowed<br />
Scholarship. The family of Jennifer Ash, Class<br />
of 2003, established this scholarship in her<br />
memory, and many more friends contributed to<br />
it. After a residency at Clarian Hospital and a<br />
faculty position at Rutgers <strong>University</strong>, Dr. Ash<br />
returned to <strong>Butler</strong> as a faculty member. She<br />
died in 2008 as the result of a snowboarding<br />
accident. Preference is given to a P4 (sixthyear)<br />
student who aspires to a career in clinical<br />
pharmacy and/or pharmacy education. Further<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
preference is given to a student who exhibits<br />
the personal and professional traits that made<br />
Dr. Ash greatly respected for her teaching skills,<br />
high standards, exuberance for life, allegiance to<br />
friends and dedication to her patients.<br />
Patricia Ann Crook Bennett Scholarship. Ms.<br />
Bennett established this scholarship in 2000<br />
with a bequest she received from the estate of<br />
her mother Elizabeth F. Crook. It is reserved<br />
for a P1 (third year) or P2 (fourth year) student<br />
studying to be a registered pharmacist in the<br />
College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences who<br />
has a minimum 3.2 to 3.5 grade point average.<br />
One or more scholarships may be awarded<br />
annually, and the scholarship is renewable.<br />
Francis A. Britt, Sr. Memorial Scholarship.<br />
This scholarship, established in the 1960s, is<br />
given to two students from the Evansville area<br />
(Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Spencer, Gibson<br />
or Davies counties). Originally known as the<br />
Southwestern Indiana Pharmaceutical Association<br />
Award, the name was changed in 1981 to<br />
the Francis A Britt, Sr. Memorial Scholarship<br />
Fund to honor the 1916 graduate of the Indiana<br />
College of Pharmacy (now <strong>Butler</strong>’s College of<br />
Pharmacy and Health Sciences). Mr. Britt was<br />
born in 1895 and started his pharmacy career<br />
by working in a drugstore at the age of 10.<br />
From 1918 to 1959, he owned and operated<br />
three pharmacies in Evansville. After selling the<br />
last one in 1959, he worked for several other<br />
pharmacies in the Evansville area until two<br />
weeks before his death in 1980 at age 85. He<br />
was one of three pharmacists chosen in 1940<br />
to revise the Pharmacopoeia.<br />
Ralph E. and June W. Brooks Scholarship.<br />
Established in 1999 by the family of Ralph<br />
and June Brooks, this fund assists pharmacy<br />
students based on financial need and academic<br />
achievement as evidenced by a grade point<br />
average of 3.0 or better. Recipients must also<br />
be U.S. citizens and residents of Indiana. The<br />
scholarship is renewable and may be given to<br />
a fourth- or sixth-year student.<br />
COPHS Centennial Legacy Scholarship.<br />
The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences<br />
Centennial Legacy Scholarship was established<br />
in fiscal year 2005 to commemorate the 100-<br />
year anniversary of pharmacy education in central<br />
Indiana. More than 120 alumni and friends<br />
of the college, including both individuals<br />
and companies, supported the scholarship. It
