The theory and practice of measurement in<br />

PE322, Nutrition for Educators: Course covers<br />
basic principles of nutrition, with emphasis<br />
on identification, functions, and food sources<br />
of nutrients required by individuals for optimal<br />
health and development. Rationale for dietary<br />
modifications in conditions related to the life<br />
cycle and to disease. Prerequisite: Completion<br />
of COE CORE I, COE CORE II and completion<br />

PE323, Kinesiology: A focus on mechanics of<br />
basic human movement with an emphasis in<br />
musculoskeletal and anatomical components.<br />
Analysis of specific joint movements and muscular<br />
actions will be performed as they relate<br />
to physical education and sports. Prerequisite:<br />
PE324 and completion of COE CORE I and<br />

PE324, Physiology of Exercise: A review of<br />
selected physiological systems with focus on<br />
the response to acute bouts of exercise and<br />
how these systems adapt to long term exposure<br />
to exercise training. Prerequisite: BI257 or<br />

PE325, The Adapted Program in Physical<br />
Education: Study of activities suitable for<br />
students in adapted programs; knowledge of<br />
current special education laws and guidelines;<br />
assessment of basic locomotor and activity<br />
skills; information on different disabilities;<br />
observation of local facilities with special<br />
education students. Prerequisite: Completion<br />
of COE CORE I and COE CORE II. (U/G)<br />

Application of instructional principles in small<br />
peer groups using open and closed motor skills,<br />
task presentations, environmental conditions,<br />
content development and feedback. Prerequisite:<br />

PE331, Phys Ed Methods for Early and<br />
Middle Childhood: Course provides preparation<br />
with subject matter content and pedagogical<br />
knowledge, skills and dispositions appropriate<br />
for teaching K-5 students with and without<br />
disabilities in the physical education and<br />
physical activity settings. Emphasizes classroom<br />
management and content development through<br />
lesson planning, lecture, seminar and fieldbased<br />
practicum. Prerequisite: PE330.<br />

PE335, Physical Education Methods Middle<br />
/Secondary: Course provides preparation<br />
with subject matter content knowledge and<br />
pedagogical knowledge, skills and dispositions<br />
appropriate for teaching grades 5–12 students<br />
with and without disabilities in the middle<br />
and secondary physical education and physical<br />
activity settings. Emphasis is on curriculum and<br />
content development through lesson planning,<br />
unit planning, lecture, seminar and field-based<br />
practicum. Prerequisite: PE331. (U)(3). Fall.<br />
PE352, Exercise Prescription: This course focuses<br />
on developing physical activity programs<br />
for achieving physical fitness which includes the<br />
use of screening instruments, risk appraisals,<br />
contraindication for exercise and assessments<br />
for the purpose of program planning. Workloads<br />
for various forms of exercise will be determined.<br />
Prerequisite: PE323 and completion of COE<br />
CORE I and COE CORE II. (U/G)(3). Spring.<br />
PE369, Supervised Field Experiences for<br />
Coaches: Students act as an assistant with a<br />
coach in a local high school. Prerequisites:<br />
Two of the following: PE261, 262, 263, 264,<br />
265 or 266, permission of the instructor, and<br />
completion of COE CORE I and COE CORE<br />
II. (U)(3).<br />
PE407, Special Problems: Available for students<br />
who have a special topic that they want to study<br />
under faculty guidance. Prerequisite: Junior or<br />
senior standing and permission of the program<br />
coordinator. (U/G)(1). Occasionally.<br />
PE330, Introductory Methods for Physical<br />
Education: This course provides instruction<br />
for developing teacher effectiveness in physical<br />
