arts and professional education. <strong>Butler</strong> Recreation<br />
is part of the Division of Student Affairs<br />
and is located at 530 W. 49th, in the Health<br />
Recreation Complex.<br />
Housing and Dining<br />
The Office of Residence Life is an integral<br />
part of the Division of Student Affairs. The<br />
staff members in this area seek to provide a<br />
positive living-learning environment in all<br />
campus residence halls. Any matters pertaining<br />
to housing, programming, food service, etc.<br />
should be directed to the staff members in<br />
residence life. The Office of Residence Life is<br />
part of the Division of Student Affairs and is<br />
located in Atherton Union, Room 303.<br />
Housing and Food Service — <strong>Butler</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> provides a variety of housing<br />
options. All first-year students not living at<br />
home with a parent or legal guardian are<br />
required to live in one of the university<br />
residence halls. All sophomore and junior<br />
students (including those affiliated with a<br />
Greek organization) not living at home with a<br />
parent or legal guardian will be required to live<br />
in <strong>University</strong> housing or an approved Greek<br />
Housing unit of which he or she is a member.<br />
The housing requirement does not apply to<br />
fully employed persons who are residents of<br />
the Indianapolis metropolitan area and who<br />
wish to attend <strong>Butler</strong> on a part-time basis.<br />
Applications and agreements for campus<br />
housing are available in the Office of Residence<br />
Life, Atherton Union, Room 303. The<br />
residence life staff works to provide a living<br />
environment that is conducive to students’<br />
intellectual, social, cultural and personal<br />
development. There are many leadership<br />
and employment opportunities available to<br />
students in the residence halls.<br />
A variety of block meal plans are available<br />
to resident students that combine all-youcare-to-eat<br />
meals with flex dollars. Declining<br />
balance flex dollars may be used at Starbucks,<br />
C-Club, Zia Juice Bar and the Dawghouse (a<br />
convenience store in the Apartment Village).<br />
Students who reside off campus, faculty and<br />
staff are able to purchase meal plans also.<br />
Students select a meal plan when they submit<br />
their housing contract but they have the ability<br />
to change plans within the first two weeks of<br />
each semester. Dining managers are available to<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
meet with students about special dietary needs<br />
and restrictions. <strong>University</strong> Dining offices are<br />
part of the Division of Student Affairs and<br />
are located on the main floor of the Atherton<br />
Union. Members of Greek organizations may<br />
have the ability to secure meal plans through<br />
their respective fraternity or sorority.<br />
Greek Life<br />
In addition, 14 national Greek collegiate<br />
fraternities and sororities maintain chapters<br />
at <strong>Butler</strong>. The fraternities are Delta Tau Delta,<br />
Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Kappa<br />
Psi, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu and Tau Kappa<br />
Epsilon. The sororities are Alpha Chi Omega,<br />
Alpha Phi, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma,<br />
Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma<br />
and Pi Beta Phi.<br />
The Office of Greek Life serves as the<br />
administrative focal point for all fraternity/<br />
sorority activities. The director works with and<br />
advises the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic<br />
Association, and Order of Omega leadership<br />
honorary, in addition to individual students<br />
and organizations. The office is responsible for<br />
overseeing recruitment, working with housing<br />
directors, serving as liaison to the alumni/ae<br />
advisory and housing boards, organizing educational<br />
and leadership workshops, and providing<br />
individual and group advising for fraternity/<br />
sorority members. The Office of Greek Life is<br />
part of the Division of Student Affairs and is<br />
located in Atherton Union, Room 312.<br />
Involvement and Service<br />
The Office of Programs for Leadership<br />
and Service Education (PuLSE) strives to<br />
promote student learning and development<br />
through leadership and service opportunities.<br />
The staff of PuLSE encourages the development<br />
of students into critical thinkers with the ability<br />
to lead, serve and contribute to their communities<br />
and commitments through programming,<br />
education and practical experiences. PuLSE<br />
staff members advise the Student Government<br />
Association and supervise the student-run<br />
Volunteer Center, which connects students to<br />
service opportunities with Indianapolis agencies.<br />
The associate director works to assist<br />
students in their service endeavors by acting<br />
as a liaison between the community and <strong>Butler</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>.<br />
