Midwest. Mrs. Lacy was a <strong>Butler</strong> alumna,<br />

Class of 1927.<br />

Dr. Henry S. Leonard and John H. Leonard<br />

Memorial Scholarship. This memorial was<br />

established by a bequest from the estate of<br />

Jessa D. Leonard, a former employee of <strong>Butler</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>. The fund memorializes her husband<br />

Henry and son, John.<br />

George J. Marott National Merit Scholarship<br />

Fund. George Joseph Marott came to Indianapolis<br />

in the 1870s from England, developed<br />

the city’s largest retail shoe trade and led the<br />

establishment of Citizens Gas Company in<br />

1905. When he died in 1946, he left half of his<br />

thriving shoe business to <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> to<br />

establish a student loan fund, which became the<br />

George J. Marott National Merit Scholarship<br />

Fund.<br />

McBride Estate Scholarship. This scholarship<br />

was endowed in 1988 by the estate of Marjorie<br />

Alice McBride, a 1935 graduate in education<br />

and member of Delta Gamma sorority.<br />

Joan P. McDermott Scholarship. This fund<br />

was established by Joan “Jody” Pfeiffer<br />

McDermott’s wish that one-fourth of her estate<br />

be given to <strong>Butler</strong> “to be held in its endowment<br />

fund with the income to be used for scholarships<br />

only.” Mrs. Pfeiffer, a teacher and civic volunteer,<br />

earned a bachelor’s degree from <strong>Butler</strong>’s College<br />

of Education in 1950 and a master’s degree in<br />

1953.<br />

Frank McHale Trust Scholarship. This<br />

scholarship was established through a bequest<br />

form Mr. McHale, an Indianapolis attorney for<br />

41 years. Funds are to benefit worthy students<br />

from Logansport or Cass counties in Indiana.<br />

Recipients may be enrolled in any area of study<br />

at <strong>Butler</strong>.<br />

scholarship, which is awarded on the basis of<br />

academic performance and demonstrated need.<br />

Margaret Ice Morey Scholarship. This fund<br />

provides scholarships to worthy women students,<br />

giving preference to residents of the state<br />

of Indiana. Margaret Ice Morey was a 1929<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> graduate.<br />

Dr. John Morton-Finney Scholarship.<br />

Honoring <strong>Butler</strong> alumnus and Indiana educator<br />

Dr. John Morton-Finney, this scholarship<br />

program assists African-American students<br />

enrolled at <strong>Butler</strong> who attended high schools in<br />

the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Dr. Morton-<br />

Finney earned 12 college and university degrees,<br />

including a bachelor’s degree in sociology and<br />

zoology from <strong>Butler</strong> in 1965. He practiced law<br />

in Indianapolis for more than 60 years until<br />

his death in 1998 at age 109. He embodied<br />

intellectual curiosity, a desire for success<br />

and academic achievement. The scholarship<br />

recognizes academically talented students with<br />

demonstrated potential to become community<br />

leaders. It covers tuition, room, board and<br />

books and can be renewed for fours years if the<br />

student maintains a cumulative grade point<br />

average of 3.0. For pharmacy students, the<br />

scholarships may extend to cover the six-year<br />

degree program. The scholarship is funded by<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Amos Nordman Foundation Charitable Trust<br />

Scholarship. The Amos Nordman Foundation<br />

Charitable Trust continues to support education<br />

by awarding this scholarship to deserving<br />

eligible male high school graduates with high<br />

academic standing and who are in need of<br />

financial assistance.<br />

Nicholas Hartman and Marguerite Lilly<br />

Noyes Scholarship Fund. This half-tuition<br />

scholarship was established by a bequest from<br />

the estate of Mr. Noyes, who received an<br />

honorary degree from <strong>Butler</strong> in 1960.<br />

Virginia M. McKay Scholarship. Established<br />

through a generous estate gift from Virginia<br />

McCune McKay, this scholarship provides<br />

financial aid for worthy <strong>Butler</strong> students. McKay<br />

received a bachelor of arts degree in English<br />

from <strong>Butler</strong> in 1917.<br />

Nicholas H. Noyes Jr. Memorial Foundation<br />

Inc. Scholarship. The foundation has provided<br />

for scholarships for the benefit of student<br />

recipients to be determined by the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Fey R. and June M. Orr Scholarship.<br />

Established by <strong>Butler</strong> alumnus Fey R. Orr and<br />

his wife June, this scholarship provides financial<br />

Annalee Webb Miller Scholarship. A gift<br />

aid to students from Kankakee or Momence<br />

from the estate of Ms. Miller established this<br />
