French history. Emphasis is on main events,<br />
people and ideas that have shaped the country.<br />

1900 to Present: A survey of France and the<br />
Francophone world in the 20th and 21st centuries<br />
through the study of literature and other<br />
cultural material. Prerequisite: FR334, 342,<br />

FR400, Internship: A supervised work experience<br />
in business, government, media or other<br />
institutions in a French-speaking country as<br />
a part of a year or a semester study abroad<br />
program or in bilingual settings in this country.<br />

French Renaissance as a historical, cultural and<br />
literary movement. Lectures, reading assignments,<br />

FR425, 17th-Century France: Overall view<br />
of the classical age in France and study of<br />

FR435, 18th-Century France: Overall view of<br />
the French Enlightenment and study of the significant<br />

movies, depending on topic. Emphasis on class<br />
discussion, writing and rewriting. Course may<br />

in the cultures of French-speaking countries.<br />
Themes may deal with literary, social, political<br />
and/or esthetic concerns of these countries,<br />
of one nation or of a region. Course may be<br />

Three years of college French or the equivalent.<br />
