educational device and a vehicle for individual<br />
and group expression. Emphasizes concepts of<br />
aesthetic judgments and criticism. Prerequisites:<br />

DA467, Design and Construction of Dance<br />
Costume: Covers basic principles involved in<br />
the preparation of design and construction of<br />
costumes for dance. Lecture and laboratory.<br />

for dance. Laboratory. Prerequisite: consent of<br />

DA471, Teaching Analysis of Classical Technique:<br />
A practical and theoretical study of basic<br />
ballet techniques, preparing the student teacher<br />
for instructing beginning ballet. Two meetings<br />
per week. Prerequisites: Junior BA Dance major<br />
or Senior BFA, BS Dance major. (U)(2).<br />
DA472, Teaching Analysis of Intermediate<br />
and Advanced Classical Techniques: Teaching<br />
intermediate and advanced ballet techniques to<br />
skilled performers and teachers. Prerequisite:<br />
DA471. (U)(2).<br />
DA474, Teaching Analysis of Modern<br />
Techniques: Pedagogy of modern techniques<br />
(theory and practice) in one or more of the<br />
following techniques: Graham, Limon, Horton,<br />
etc. Prerequisites: DA471, 331. (U)(2).<br />
DA476, Teaching Analysis of Jazz Techniques:<br />
Pedagogy of jazz techniques (theory<br />
and practice) utilizing the Symonson technique.<br />
Prerequisites: DA241, 242, and 471. (U)(2).<br />
DA477, 478, Dance Teaching Practicum:<br />
Observation and teaching in selected school<br />
situations as a correlated school activity.<br />
Prerequisites: DA472, 474 or 476 and<br />
consent of department chair. (U)(2).<br />
DA481, 482, 483, Independent Study: An<br />
opportunity for the qualified student to pursue<br />
some investigative work upon his or her own<br />
initiative. Approval of department chair is<br />
required. (U)(1, 2, 3).<br />
DA491, 492, 493, Special Seminar: Work in<br />
the special seminar shall be centered on a specific<br />
aspect of dance. A paper may be required.<br />
