SW270-IS, Understanding Global Issues:<br />

The course addresses the intensification of<br />

Globalization during the first decade of the 21st<br />

century. It introduces students to contemporary<br />

issues related to globalization. (U)(3). Fall and<br />

spring.<br />

International Studies Courses<br />

IS101 Introduction to International Studies:<br />

The course is designed to help students to<br />

understand and critically reflect on issues that<br />

affect both the United States and the international<br />

community. The issues addressed in this<br />

course are key pieces of the larger and interrelated<br />

set of the international system. (U)(3).<br />

Fall and spring.<br />

IS301, Model European Union: This course<br />

introduces the student to the organization and<br />

functioning of the European Union’s institutions<br />

and prepares them to participate in the<br />

Midwest Model European Union, which takes<br />

place every April for three days. Prerequisites:<br />

Any 100 level course in the social sciences or<br />

permission of the instructor. (U)(1). Spring.<br />

IS390, The UN and Other International<br />

Organizations: This course introduces students<br />

to several international organizations, with<br />

a focus on the United Nations. The broader<br />

theoretical and experiential focus of the class<br />

will help students understand international<br />

institutions and to become more effective<br />

global citizens, while developing proficiency in<br />

policy formulation, parliamentary procedure,<br />

negotiation and conflict resolution. Prerequisites:<br />

Any 100 level course in the social sciences<br />

or permission of the instructor. (U)(3). Fall.<br />
