High School in Eastern Illinois who graduate in<br />
the top 30 percent of their class and demonstrate<br />
financial need.<br />
Harriet L. Paddock Scholarship. This<br />
scholarship, endowed by the estate of Harriet L.<br />
Paddock, is awarded to students who attended<br />
public or private schools in Marion, Vigo or<br />
Montgomery counties in Indiana. Recipients<br />
must be outstanding students with financial<br />
need while at <strong>Butler</strong> in order for the scholarship<br />
to be renewable.<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> Parent Council Book Scholarship.<br />
The <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> Parent Council promotes<br />
parents’ active involvement in the life of the<br />
<strong>University</strong> and serves <strong>Butler</strong> in various advisory<br />
and supportive roles. This fund provides stipends<br />
to help students purchase books for their<br />
studies at <strong>Butler</strong>. Recipients must be in good<br />
academic standing.<br />
Miriam Roesener Prange Scholarship. A gift<br />
from the estate of Henry C. Prange, this fund<br />
was established in honor of his wife to benefit<br />
worthy <strong>Butler</strong> students who would otherwise<br />
be unable to continue their education.<br />
Lola M. Rankin Scholarship. This fund was<br />
established by a bequest from the estate of Lola<br />
M. Rankin, Class of 1942. This scholarship<br />
is for a deserving female student who demonstrates<br />
financial need.<br />
Anna R. Reade Scholarship. This fund memorializes<br />
Anna R. Reade, who dedicated her life<br />
to teaching. The donor, her brother, Herbert J.<br />
Reade specified in his will that the awardees be<br />
students of “unusual promise.”<br />
Henry E. Reich Scholarship. Jack E. Reich<br />
established this scholarship in memory of his<br />
brother, Henry. There are no geographic or<br />
field of study restrictions, but selection is based<br />
on academic performance and financial need.<br />
Louise Rich Memorial Scholarship. This<br />
endowed scholarship is for students who<br />
achieve good academic standing.<br />
Herman G. Riggs Scholarship. While serving<br />
as a member of the first executive committee<br />
for the <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> Dads Association,<br />
Herman Riggs established a scholarship award<br />
for students with financial need. He was not a<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> alumnus, but he wished to express his<br />
deep interest in the <strong>University</strong> and his gratitude<br />
for the outstanding educational experiences<br />
received by his two daughters, both of whom<br />
were <strong>Butler</strong> graduates. Recipients must meet<br />
the usual scholastic requirements of the Office<br />
of Financial Aid.<br />
Virginia Teague Robinson Scholarship.<br />
Established in 1990 by Mrs. Robinson’s will,<br />
this endowed scholarship fund is for deserving<br />
students who demonstrate academic excellence<br />
and show financial need.<br />
Rogers-McCarthy Scholarship. This fund<br />
was established by a bequest from the estate<br />
of William P. McCarthy, Class of 1931, to<br />
honor the memory of his wife Mary Rogers<br />
McCarthy, Class of 1929, and her parents,<br />
Lete and Bertha Miller McCarthy.<br />
Raman Sandhu Endowed Scholarship.<br />
Jatinder-Bir “Jay” Sandhu, Class of 1987 and<br />
a member of the <strong>Butler</strong> Board of Trustees,<br />
established this fund to honor the life of his<br />
sister Raman Sandhu, who died of cancer at<br />
age 3. The recipient shall be a woman of Indian<br />
descent. If no recipient of Indian descent can<br />
be identified, preference is given to a female<br />
student whose parents served in the military.<br />
Sawyer Scholarship. This fund was established<br />
by a bequest from the estate of Edward W.<br />
Sawyer to aid worthy <strong>Butler</strong> students who are<br />
members of the Christian Church (Disciples of<br />
Christ). This scholarship must be applied for<br />
directly by contacting the Office of Financial<br />
Aid.<br />
George and Marjorie Schley Memorial<br />
Scholarship. This fund was established by a<br />
bequest from the estate of Marjorie Schley and<br />
is awarded on the basis of academic excellence.<br />
Scotlyn Fund Scholarship. The Scotlyn Fund<br />
was created in 1987 by then-<strong>Butler</strong> President<br />
Jack Johnson and his wife Jane. Income from<br />
this endowed scholarship provides financial aid<br />
for minority students attending <strong>Butler</strong>, with<br />
preference given to African-American students<br />
who are citizens of the United States. The<br />
Johnson family continues to augment the<br />
fund principal.<br />
