historical survey of dress and how it relates to<br />

TH325, Costume Design: This course<br />

introduces the qualities, tools, and process of<br />

design. We study the visual elements of design,<br />

their place in theatrical productions, and our<br />

responses to them. Students will do script and<br />

character analysis and research, make design<br />

choices, render, and present their work. Prerequisite:<br />

TH105. Open to Theatre majors only.<br />

TH326, Advanced Makeup Projects: Creating<br />

and executing makeups involving advanced and<br />

complex techniques. Prerequisite: TH123. (U)<br />

TH330, Theatre Graphics: Drafting and<br />

rendering techniques for scenic and lighting<br />

design. Covers development of theatrical<br />

designs through ground plans, front elevations,<br />

working and line drawings, and considers of<br />

both manual and CAD techniques. Prerequisite:<br />

TH200, 231, 232. (U)(2). Occasionally.<br />

TH331, Scenography: Advanced problems in<br />

theatre technology — new materials, production<br />

planning and introduction to scenography.<br />

TH332, Stage Lighting II: Advanced technology<br />

and design for drama, dance and opera.<br />

Also lighting for various physical theatre types.<br />

TH333, Play Analysis: Form and structure of<br />

the written play as it relates to acting, directing<br />

and the staged production. Open to Theatre<br />

TH335, Principles and Practice of Children’s<br />

Theatre: The literature of children’s theatre<br />

with particular emphasis on theatre forms for<br />

children in grades 1–8. (U)(2). Occasionally.<br />

TH380, 381, 382, Special Seminar: Work in<br />

the seminar shall be centered on any specific<br />

problem wherein theatre or drama is a factor.<br />

Open to Theatre majors only. (U)(1, 2, 3). Fall<br />

TH385W, Dramatic Literature I: This writing<br />

intensive course will investigate significant dramatic<br />

works from the major periods of Western<br />

playwriting activity. Prerequisite: Junior or<br />

senior status. Open to Theatre majors only.<br />

TH400, 401, 402, Independent Study: An<br />

opportunity for the qualified student to pursue<br />

some investigative work on his or her own initiative.<br />

Prerequisite: Permission of department<br />

chair and instructor. Open to Theatre majors<br />

TH403, 404, 405, Senior Project: A capstone<br />

course to provide students with the opportunity<br />

to extend their skills in a particular area of theatre<br />

discipline. Required of all seniors who are<br />

not engaged in Honors Thesis, senior internship,<br />

double major or who completed BSI in<br />

the summer before senior year. (U)( 1, 2, 3).<br />

TH410, Acting V: This course focuses on texts<br />

by Modern authors including Chekhov, Gogol,<br />

Ostrovsky, Bulgakov, Dostoyevsky, Ibsen and<br />

others. These texts and accompanying exercises,<br />

culled from Michael Chekhov and other<br />

sources, allow the actor to live fully and freely<br />

under imaginary circumstances, develop rich<br />

characters using internal and external stimuli,<br />

create a complex and sophisticated ensemble.<br />

TH411, Stage Directing I: Techniques necessary<br />

for the direction of plays on primarily the<br />

proscenium stage: composition, picturization,<br />

pantomimic dramatization, rhythm and movement.<br />

Directorial techniques required for arena<br />

theatre, three-quarter and thrust stage also will<br />

be considered. Prerequisites: Junior status and<br />

TH111, 112, 231, 232 and 333. (U)(3). Fall<br />

only.
