ME361, Practicum in Music Education:<br />
Supervised observation and participation in a<br />
teaching setting with K–12th grade students<br />
under the supervision of an approved instructor.<br />
A minimum of 24 lab hours and a final<br />
portfolio is required. By permission only. This<br />

that addresses a specific aspect of music education.<br />

ME390, Clarinet and Flute Techniques:<br />
Teaching techniques and materials of the<br />
clarinet and flute. The class includes a performance<br />
lab and will meet two days per week for<br />

Teaching techniques and materials of<br />

ME393, Percussion Techniques II: Teaching<br />
techniques and materials of percussion instruments.<br />
This class is a continuation of ME190<br />
and will cover percussion instruments and<br />
techniques not discussed in ME190. This class<br />

ME400, 401, 402, Independent Study:<br />
An opportunity for the qualified student to<br />
pursue some investigative work upon his or her<br />
own initiative. Prerequisite: Permission of the<br />
department chair and instructor. (U)(1, 2, 3).<br />

ME407, Instrumental Pedagogy and<br />
Repertoire: In this course students will<br />
develop an understanding of techniques of<br />
instrumental pedagogy, become familiar with<br />
available repertoire and teaching materials, and<br />

investigate issues related to private instruction.<br />
Requirements include written and experiential<br />
assignments, practicum experiences within the<br />
instrumental techniques classes and elsewhere,<br />

ME411, Marching Band Techniques: Fundamentals<br />
and techniques needed to develop and<br />
maintain a marching band. An extra project<br />
will be required for graduate credit. (U/G)(2).<br />

ME412, Vocal Pedagogy: Physiology of the<br />
human voice and its development from early<br />
childhood through adulthood. Attention to<br />
appropriate literature and exercises suitable to<br />
vocal development, vocal repair and maintenance.<br />
Prerequisite: Junior, senior or graduate<br />

ME413, Teaching the Young Singer: This<br />
course will teach the fundamentals of healthy<br />
vocal production, and how to analyze and correct<br />
vocal problems in middle school and high<br />
school singers. Students will also learn how to<br />
find, evaluate and effectively teach solo music<br />
in the public school or private studio setting.<br />
Prerequisite: Junior, senior or graduate standing.<br />

ME414, Jazz Pedagogy: Preparation for successful<br />
teaching experiences in jazz at the middle,<br />
high school and beginning college levels.<br />
Students will gain insight into performance and<br />
rehearsal techniques for jazz ensembles and into<br />
approaches for teaching jazz theory, history, and<br />
improvisation. An additional project is required<br />
for graduate credit. (U/G)(2). Fall only.<br />
ME416, Piano Teaching Internship: Piano<br />
teaching, under supervision, in a variety of<br />
settings and levels. Prerequisite: Permission of<br />

Consideration of the latest trends and advances<br />
in research and electronic/computer technology<br />

of teaching music through movement. The<br />
