several capacities throughout her career. Margaret<br />

M. Grimes, a close friend and former director<br />

of student activities at <strong>Butler</strong>, along with Bromley’s<br />

nephew, Charles Vogt II, established this<br />

endowed scholarship in Bromley’s memory. It is<br />

to be awarded to a junior pre-medicine student<br />

with financial need who has maintained a 3.5<br />

or better GPA.<br />

Gayle Augustine Olson Scholarship. Dr.<br />

Gayle A. Olson, Class of 1966, and her husband<br />

Dr. Richard D. Olson helped pioneer the study<br />

of the relationship between neuropeptides and<br />

behavior. She created this scholarship to be<br />

awarded to psychology majors who demonstrate<br />

financial need and academic merit and who<br />

maintain a 3.0 grade point average or better.<br />

Robert H. Egbert Premedical Scholarship.<br />

This scholarship was established in 1972 by<br />

Hazel Springer Ebgert, class of 1906. It honors<br />

the memory of her husband Robert. Guidelines<br />

stipulate that the recipient must be preparing to<br />

be a medical doctor, must have completed three<br />

semesters, earned a 3.0 GPA or better and be of<br />

good moral character.<br />

Walter Leroy Portteus Scholarship. This<br />

endowed fund was established through the<br />

estate of Gene Lois Portteus Branigin to honor<br />

her brother, Walter Leroy Portteus. These<br />

scholarships are for students enrolled in a<br />

pre-medicine curriculum.<br />

Jennifer L. Wetzel Endowed Scholarship.<br />

Friends and family of Jennifer Wetzel endowed<br />

this scholarship for juniors or seniors who have<br />

declared an interest in pre-medicine studies,<br />

with preference given to students who want to<br />

study oncology. Successful recipients will have<br />

achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better.<br />

Psychology<br />

Dr. Pamela Christy Psychology Scholarship.<br />

Dr. Pamela Christy received a Bachelor of Arts<br />

degree from <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 1979 and a<br />

Master of Science in Marital and Family<br />

Therapy from <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 1992.<br />

The scholarship provides tuition support for<br />

students from the State of Indiana majoring in<br />

psychology. Recipients must have a cumulative<br />

3.30 grade point average or better and should<br />

be a rising junior or senior.<br />

Dr. Wesley A. Dunn Scholarship in Psychology.<br />

Florence Goodrich Dunn established this<br />

endowed scholarship to honor her son, Wesley,<br />

through a trust she created in 1989. He was a<br />

Diplomate of the American Board of Professional<br />

Psychology who served as a part-time<br />

instructor in psychology at <strong>Butler</strong> from 1955 to<br />

1965. The scholarship provides tuition support<br />

for students majoring in psychology.<br />

Stuart Prize in Psychology. This fund was<br />

established by Stephen K. Stuart, a psychology<br />

graduate in the Class of 1974. The Stuart<br />

Prize has been awarded annually since 1988 to<br />

reward scholarship, innovation and scientific<br />

potential in undergraduate research. The funds<br />

provide support for psychology majors presenting<br />

the results of their own research projects at<br />

national and regional professional conferences.<br />

Dr. Burrton Woodruff Undergraduate<br />

Research Award. This fund was established<br />

by Stephen K. Stuart, Class of 1974, in honor<br />

of Professor of Psychology Emeritus Burrton<br />

G. Woodruff. Dr. Woodruff joined the <strong>Butler</strong><br />

faculty in 1968 and served the <strong>Butler</strong> community<br />

for 35 years. Scholarships are awarded to<br />

rising juniors and seniors majoring or minoring<br />

in psychology. Recipients must be engaged in<br />

a research project that demonstrates excellence<br />

in methodology, research design or statistical<br />

analysis.<br />

Edgar Lee Yeager Memorial Award. This<br />

award is a tribute to Edgar Lee Yeager, <strong>Butler</strong><br />

professor of psychology from 1959 until his<br />

death in 1975, when he was named professor<br />

emeritus. He loved learning and teaching, and<br />

his legacy to his students was a deep appreciation<br />

of knowledge and a commitment to honor<br />

the highest standards of psychology. This<br />

scholarship is awarded to a student in psychology<br />

who reflects the tradition of excellence that<br />

Edgar Yeager represented, exhibits a love and<br />

respect for knowledge, and displays academic<br />

proficiency. An engraved plaque accompanies<br />

the award.<br />

ReligiousStudies<br />

Mabel Campbell Religious Studies Scholarship.<br />

This scholarship was established by the<br />

estate of Miss Mabel L. Campbell, a friend of<br />

the <strong>University</strong> who died in 1999 at age 104. It<br />

is a freshman scholarship renewable for three<br />

years after the initial award. Recipients should<br />

be full-time freshmen majoring in religion.<br />
