Mary Lou Carroll Scholarship. Mary Lou<br />

Carroll, Class of 1939, provided in her will for<br />

a scholarship to benefit student recipients to be<br />

determined by the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Emil V. Cassady and Dorothy Duesenberg<br />

Cassady Scholarship. This endowment fund<br />

from the Dorothy Duesenberg Cassady Trust<br />

was established to provide general scholarships.<br />

Emil was a member of the Class of 1922 and<br />

his wife Dorothy was a member of the Class<br />

of 1929.<br />

Joseph Chasey Scholarship. A scholarship<br />

is provided annually to a student who, in the<br />

judgment of <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>, is most deserving<br />

of scholarship assistance based upon need<br />

and the student’s interests and capacity to<br />

excel in academic studies. The scholarship was<br />

provided through a bequest from the estate of<br />

Gladys Chasey in memory of her husband, a<br />

member of the Class of 1969.<br />

Grace Julian Clarke Scholarship Award.<br />

Grace Julian Clarke graduated from <strong>Butler</strong><br />

College in 1884 and became the first female<br />

columnist for The Indianapolis Star. This scholarship<br />

is given to a female student, based on<br />

need — to a “girl needing additional funds to<br />

enable her to take work at <strong>Butler</strong> College.”<br />

Class of 1935 Recognition Award. Members<br />

of <strong>Butler</strong>’s graduating Class of 1935, wishing<br />

to provide financial assistance to deserving<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> students, endowed this scholarship that<br />

provides support to full-time students in good<br />

standing with the <strong>University</strong> who maintain a<br />

cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.<br />

Class of 1938 Scholarship. Members of the<br />

Class of 1938 established this scholarship to<br />

commemorate their 50th class reunion in 1988.<br />

They considered this project to be a fitting<br />

tribute to each member of the class and an<br />

appropriate expression of their appreciation for<br />

the education they received at <strong>Butler</strong>. It is their<br />

legacy, supporting a belief that they could do<br />

nothing more worthwhile than to help future<br />

students of <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

and vice chairman of <strong>Butler</strong>’s Board of Trustees<br />

in the 1970s. Preference is given to full-time<br />

students in good standing with the <strong>University</strong><br />

who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.<br />

Class of 1940 Scholarship. Members of the<br />

Class of 1940, desiring to provide financial<br />

assistance to current <strong>Butler</strong> students, raised<br />

$11,550 to commemorate their 50th class<br />

reunion and establish this scholarship in 1990.<br />

They considered the scholarship to be an<br />

appropriate legacy to help future students,<br />

as well as a tribute to each class member and<br />

expression of appreciation for the education<br />

they received at <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Class of 1941 Scholarship. This scholarship,<br />

endowed by members of the Class of 1941,<br />

provides financial assistance to worthy <strong>Butler</strong><br />

students who are in good standing with the<br />

<strong>University</strong>.<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> Class of 1942 Endowed<br />

Scholarship. Members of the Class of 1942<br />

celebrated their 60th reunion in 2002 by establishing<br />

this fund to benefit deserving <strong>Butler</strong><br />

students for years to come and to provide them<br />

with the same opportunities they enjoyed. This<br />

scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate<br />

student who demonstrates financial need. Preference<br />

is given to a full-time student in good<br />

standing with the <strong>University</strong>. Recipients must<br />

have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.<br />

Class of 1943 Scholarship. Members of the<br />

Class of 1943 established this scholarship to<br />

assist deserving <strong>Butler</strong> students. This fund<br />

provides support to full-time students in good<br />

standing with the <strong>University</strong> who maintain a<br />

cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.<br />

Class of 1945 Sesquicentennial Scholarship.<br />

Members and friends of the Class of 1945<br />

established this scholarship to provide financial<br />

assistance to deserving <strong>Butler</strong> students. Preference<br />

is given to full-time students in good<br />

standing with the <strong>University</strong> who maintain a<br />

cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.<br />

Byron “Tubby” Reed Class of 1939 Scholarship. <strong>Butler</strong> Class of 1950 Endowed Scholarship.<br />

This endowed fund was established through Members of the Class of 1950 established this<br />

gifts from <strong>Butler</strong>’s Class of 1939 at its 60th scholarship to provide financial assistance to<br />

reunion in 1999. It honors A. Byron Reed, deserving <strong>Butler</strong> students. Preference is given<br />
