Donald Pike and Janet Pike Off Scholarships.<br />
Donald H. Pike loved music, flying and <strong>Butler</strong>.<br />
The 1950 graduate devoted much of his time<br />
to the marching band; in fact, his tie to the<br />
marching Bulldogs was so strong, he played<br />
with the band for a year after graduation and<br />
announced the band programs at football<br />
games for the next 10 years. The Donald Pike<br />
award is given to a student in the College of<br />
Business, with preference to a member of the<br />
Marching Band. Janet Pike Off, a 1958 education<br />
graduate who also received her master’s<br />
degree from the <strong>University</strong>, taught elementary<br />
school for more than 30 years. While at <strong>Butler</strong>,<br />
she played glockenspiel in the Marching Band,<br />
and she remained involved through the Alumni<br />
Board and other activities. The Janet Pike Off<br />
award is given to an education student, with<br />
preference to a member of the Marching Band.<br />
This double scholarship fund was established<br />
by Mr. Pike’s son, Darrell, on behalf of the<br />
family in memory of his late father and his aunt.<br />
H. Gene Pruner Scholarship. This fund<br />
honors the late H. Gene Pruner, a Chartered<br />
Life Underwriter and co-founder and former<br />
president of MarketShare Financial Inc. It<br />
benefits capable undergraduate or graduate<br />
students in the College of Business. Preference<br />
is given to students who have a grade point<br />
average 3.0 or better and financial need. Further,<br />
recipients will be given the opportunity for an<br />
internship at MarketShare Financial Inc. based<br />
on openings and candidate qualifications at the<br />
time.<br />
H. E. Rasmussen Memorial Scholarship.<br />
Made possible by the estate of alumna Ruth<br />
Rasmussen Williams, the H.E. Rasmussen Memorial<br />
Scholarship is awarded annually to a top<br />
student in the College of Business. Ruth Williams<br />
was the wife of Mr. Rasmussen’s nephew.<br />
William T. Rasmussen Memorial Scholarship.<br />
The estate of alumna Ruth Duckwall Rasmussen<br />
Williams makes possible this award for a top<br />
business student. The scholarship honors<br />
the leadership and accomplishments of her<br />
husband, also a <strong>Butler</strong> graduate. Mrs. Williams<br />
endowed several scholarships at <strong>Butler</strong>.<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
Marvin and Louis Recht Family Scholarship.<br />
This scholarship is given in honor of Marvin<br />
Recht, who mentored many <strong>Butler</strong> students in<br />
their job searches and careers, and in memory<br />
of his wife Lois. It is awarded to a student from<br />
a one-person or a single-parent home, with<br />
preference given to a freshman in the College of<br />
Business. This is a renewable scholarship.<br />
Midge Rust Award. Hilbert Rust provided this<br />
award in memory of his wife and in support of<br />
his interest in the survival of the free enterprise<br />
system. It benefits an outstanding student<br />
in the College of Business for use during the<br />
senior year.<br />
Aaron and Margaret Schamp Endowed<br />
Scholarship. Aaron Schamp, Class of 1993,<br />
and Margaret Schamp, Class of 1992, both<br />
credit their success to mentors at <strong>Butler</strong>. They<br />
wish to express their gratitude by contributing<br />
to another <strong>Butler</strong> student’s success. This award<br />
is assigned to the same student(s) who receive<br />
the PriceWaterhouseCoopers Scholarship. If<br />
that is not possible, the award is to go to a<br />
qualified student in the College of Business.<br />
Edger C. Sr. and Mabel B. Seitz Memorial<br />
Scholarship Fund. In 1948, E. C. Seitz Sr.<br />
founded Service Supply Co. in a small storeroom<br />
on Virginia Avenue in Indianapolis. The<br />
company grew and was incorporated in 1953.<br />
In honor of the company’s founding and in<br />
conjunction with its 40th anniversary, officers<br />
and stockholders of Service Supply Co. Inc.<br />
established this fund in memory of Edger and<br />
his wife Mabel, who passed away in 1963 and<br />
1979, respectively.<br />
Sellick, Deming and Schuler Business<br />
Scholarship. Winstan “Bud” and Jacqueline<br />
Sellick, both Class of 1944, created this scholarship<br />
to honor family members who had ties to<br />
<strong>Butler</strong>. The Sellick, Deming and Schuler Business<br />
Scholarship is named after Mr. Sellick’s<br />
father and mother, F. Stanley Sellick, Class of<br />
1916 (a former treasurer for the <strong>University</strong>) and<br />
Winifred Sellick, Class of 1921. Ruth Schuler<br />
Deming and Thelma Schuler are Mr. Sellick’s<br />
aunts; Thelma served many years as <strong>Butler</strong>’s<br />
assistant librarian. The scholarship is available<br />
to full-time College of Business students based<br />
on financial need and a grade point average that<br />
places them in the upper 50 percent of their<br />
class. This is a renewable scholarship.
