William R. Gibson Memorial Scholarship<br />
Fund. Hazel G. Gibson, a friend of <strong>Butler</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong>, established this endowed scholarship<br />
in memory of her husband, William R. Gibson,<br />
Class of 1948. He was a pharmacologist with Eli<br />
Lilly and Company for 35 years. Throughout<br />
his life, he was a loyal <strong>Butler</strong> supporter and<br />
taught graduate-level courses at the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
The scholarship is awarded to pharmacy<br />
students based on academic performance<br />
and financial need. It is renewable.<br />
Paul A. Holsapple Memorial Scholarship.<br />
After Mr. Holsapple’s death in 1991, his wife E.<br />
Jane Holsapple established this scholarship in<br />
recognition of his commitment to education.<br />
He attended the Indiana College of Pharmacy,<br />
forerunner of <strong>Butler</strong>’s College of Pharmacy, and<br />
worked as a sales representative for Eli Lilly and<br />
Company for 34 years. Holsapple Scholarships<br />
are intended to encourage students who have<br />
demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational<br />
and professional goals and the initiative<br />
to seek opportunities to further their progress.<br />
They are awarded to pharmacy students in<br />
their third year or later, with preference given<br />
to students from Indianapolis and Marion<br />
County. One or more scholarships may be<br />
awarded annually and may be renewed.<br />
James M. and Cheryl L. Hussey Endowed<br />
Scholarship. This scholarship provides financial<br />
assistance to deserving <strong>Butler</strong> students in the<br />
College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, with<br />
preference given to those in their P4 (sixth)<br />
year. Preference will be given to a student<br />
who plans to pursue a residency program after<br />
graduation.<br />
Virginia Mae McIntire Kirkpatrick Memorial<br />
Scholarship. Mr. Kirkpatrick established this<br />
endowed fund as a memorial to his wife, Class<br />
of 1926. He also wished to help maintain the<br />
superiority of <strong>Butler</strong>’s College of Pharmacy and<br />
Health Sciences. The fund provides scholarships<br />
for students majoring in pharmacy.<br />
A.J.W. LeBien Scholarship Fund. This<br />
scholarship was created as a tribute to A.J.W.<br />
LeBien by his children, all of whom are <strong>Butler</strong><br />
graduates. Mr. LeBien’s career exemplified the<br />
highest standards of integrity and service in<br />
the pharmaceutical industry. In his personal<br />
and business life, he was respected by all who<br />
knew him. This award is intended to encourage<br />
students who have demonstrated the capacity to<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
achieve educational and professional goals and<br />
the initiative to seek opportunities to further<br />
their progress.<br />
Lobraico Family Endowed Scholarship. This<br />
fund was established in memory of alumnus<br />
Frank Lobraico, former owner of Clifton Pharmacy<br />
and a dedicated servant to and advocate<br />
of his profession. The scholarship, based on<br />
merit, is awarded to a third-year pharmacy<br />
student who is interested in pursuing a career<br />
in community pharmacy.<br />
Charles W. Magness Endowed Scholarship.<br />
Endowed by a gift from the estate of Charles<br />
Magness, this scholarship is administered by<br />
the Office of Financial Aid. Preference is given<br />
to students in the College of Pharmacy and<br />
Health Sciences.<br />
Meijer Inc. Endowed Pharmacy Scholarship.<br />
Through the Meijer Inc. Endowed Pharmacy<br />
Scholarship Fund, a student in the College<br />
of Pharmacy and Health Sciences will be<br />
recognized with a scholarship based on financial<br />
need and the student’s interest in community<br />
pharmacy practice.<br />
Rebecca Smith Merlina and Margaret Smith<br />
Linden Scholarship. This fund was established<br />
by Rebecca Smith Merlina, Class of 1988, and<br />
her husband Dominic Merlina, Classes of 1985<br />
and 1986; her sister Margaret Smith Linden<br />
and her husband R. Mark Linden, both Class<br />
of 1995; and Becky and Meg’s parents, J.<br />
Stephen and Barbara Smith. It provides financial<br />
assistance to deserving undergraduates, with<br />
preference given to female students with a grade<br />
point average of 3.5 or higher and who are<br />
members of Delta Gamma sorority. Preference<br />
is further given to a student majoring in either<br />
pharmacy or accounting.<br />
Russell D. Mesalam Memorial Pharmacy<br />
Scholarship. Russell Mesalam, Class of 1961,<br />
was a loyal and active alumnus who served on<br />
<strong>Butler</strong>’s alumni board. He had a distinguished<br />
33-year career with Hook Drugs Inc. and its<br />
successor. This scholarship to honor his memory<br />
was established by his wife, Barbara Mesalam<br />
Gregory, Class of 1988, and the Hook Drug<br />
Foundation. It is intended for a sophomore<br />
pharmacy student. The recipient must be a<br />
permanent resident of Indiana with a 2.8<br />
grade point average. The award can be given<br />
for up to four years.
