Music Lyric Theatre Courses<br />
MLT110, Lyric Theatre Workshop: An<br />
integrated forum for the performance of music<br />
theatre in its varied forms: opera, musical theatre,<br />
cabaret and review. One full length, staged<br />
production will be offered each year, alternating<br />
between opera and musical theatre, with scenes<br />
from operas and musical theatre on alternating<br />
semesters. Prerequisite: Membership by<br />
audition, freshman or sophomore status.<br />

MLT201, Acting I — Foundations in Acting:<br />
The singer/actor’s introduction to the fundamentals<br />
of acting. Prerequisite: JCFA major or<br />
permission of instructor. (U)(2). Fall only.<br />
MLT202, Acting II — Creating a Character:<br />
The singer’s introduction to the fundamentals<br />
of character development. Prerequisite:<br />
MLT201 or permission of the instructor.<br />

MLT203, Acting III — Period Expressions:<br />
The singer’s introduction to the styles and<br />
expressions of a variety of theatrical periods and<br />
styles. Emphasis will be on scene work utilizing<br />
period movement, costuming, make-up, voice<br />
and presentation style. Prerequisite: MLT202 or<br />
permission of instructor. (U)(2). Occasionally.<br />
MLT301, Musical Theatre I: This course<br />
acquaints students with the basic elements of<br />
song and character analysis required to effectively<br />
perform the song literature of the musical<br />
theatre. Prerequisite: MLT201, TH110 or an<br />
equivalent college acting course, or audition or<br />
permission of the instructor. (U)(2). Fall only.<br />
MLT302, Musical Theatre II: This course<br />
acquaints students with the process of creating<br />
a musical character. Prerequisite: MLT301 or<br />
permission of the instructor. (U)(2). Spring<br />
only.<br />
MLT303, Musical Theatre III: This course acquaints<br />
students with the process of preparing<br />
a musical theatre role and audition techniques.<br />
Prerequisite: MLT302 or permission of the<br />
instructor. (U)(2). Occasionally.<br />
MLT310, Lyric Theatre Workshop: An<br />
integrated forum for the performance of music<br />
theatre in its varied forms: opera, musical<br />

MLT400, Lyric Theatre Senior Showcase:<br />
This course serves as the culmination of the<br />
Lyric Theatre concentration. The student will<br />
conceive, produce and perform a performance<br />
piece, which encompasses the student’s integrated<br />
skills in singing, acting and dance. (P/F)<br />
