who is a graduate of <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Dean Pat Chase Scholarship. Patricia Chase<br />

was appointed dean of the College of Pharmacy<br />

and Health Sciences in 2000 and to the Edward<br />

and Margaret Rowe Chair for the Dean of<br />

COPHS in 2004. James and Patricia Chase,<br />

with assistance from friends and colleagues,<br />

established this scholarship for students<br />

enrolled in the professional pharmacy and<br />

physician’s assistant programs (P3, P4, PA1<br />

and PA2).<br />

Dennis M. and Ellen A. Clark Endowed<br />

Scholarship. Dennis Clark earned an MBA<br />

from <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 1977, and his wife<br />

Ellen is a longtime staff member who currently<br />

serves as executive assistant to the president.<br />

The Clarks created this scholarship to provide<br />

financial assistance to deserving students<br />

enrolled in the Pharm.D./M.B.A. program.<br />

Preference is given to a P1 (third-year) or P2<br />

(fourth-year) student who is from the state of<br />

Indiana and who has a cumulative grade point<br />

average of 3.0 or better.<br />

CVS Charitable Trust Scholarship. CVS has<br />

been a strong partner in helping to build the<br />

excellent reputation of the College of Pharmacy<br />

and Health Sciences. These awards provide<br />

ongoing financial support to current COPHS<br />

students.<br />

Delbauve Memorial Scholarship in Pharmacy.<br />

J. Richard Delbauve made a bequest to <strong>Butler</strong><br />

to honor his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H.<br />

Delbauve. Funds are used to provide scholarships<br />

in the College of Pharmacy and Health<br />

Sciences.<br />

Dale and Mary Doerr and Linda Quinney<br />

Doerr Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Dale Doerr<br />

served the <strong>University</strong> for 31 years in various<br />

capacities, including professor and dean in the<br />

College of Pharmacy. He invented pill coating<br />

for medical tablets and held the first two U.S.<br />

patents ever issued for the process. Dr. Doerr<br />

and his wife Mary were known for working<br />

as a team, and this scholarship was created to<br />

recognize their contributions to <strong>Butler</strong>. Their<br />

daughter-in-law, Linda Quinney Doerr graduated<br />

from the College of Pharmacy and Health<br />

Sciences in 1977. When she unexpectedly<br />

passed away in 2008, the family renamed this<br />

scholarship to include Linda. The recipient<br />

must be a sophomore or junior pharmacy<br />

major from the State of Indiana. The recipient<br />

must also maintain a grade point average of<br />

2.50. The recipient may receive this award for a<br />

maximum of two years.<br />

Dr. William J. Fleming Pharmacy Memorial<br />

Scholarship. Several members of Dr. Fleming’s<br />

family worked diligently to establish a<br />

meaningful memorial fund in his name so<br />

that assistance can be given to undergraduate<br />

pharmacy students of superior ability and<br />

character. The family’s intent was to develop<br />

the best attainable education for the profession<br />

of pharmacy in which Dr. Fleming was so<br />

intensely interested, to honor the <strong>Butler</strong> education<br />

he enjoyed and to keep his name alive. Dr.<br />

Fleming received his bachelor of science degree<br />

from <strong>Butler</strong> in 1953; his wife, Dorothea, also<br />

Class of 1953, received her M.S. from <strong>Butler</strong><br />

in 1967.<br />

Charles V. and Madonna M. Flemming<br />

Pharmacy Scholarship. College of Pharmacy<br />

and Health Sciences Board of Visitors member<br />

Charles V. Flemming and his wife Madonna<br />

established this award in 1999 to be given<br />

annually to COPHS students. Mr. Flemming<br />

received his master’s degree in industrial<br />

pharmacy from <strong>Butler</strong> in 1964.<br />

Edward and Maxine Gee Scholarship. This<br />

endowed scholarship is awarded to a deserving<br />

pharmacy student. Mr. Gee received his<br />

pharmacy degree from <strong>Butler</strong> in 1931 and was<br />

president of the Indianapolis Association of<br />

Retail Druggists.<br />

James W. Gibson Memorial Endowed<br />

Scholarship. Hazel G. Gibson, a friend of<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>, established this fund in<br />

memory of her son, who died in 2002 at age<br />

55. Jim Gibson was an avid golfer who attended<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> before graduating from Franklin College.<br />

This fund provides financial assistance to <strong>Butler</strong><br />

students who play on the men’s or women’s<br />

golf teams and who maintain a 3.0 grade point<br />

average. If a qualified golf team member cannot<br />

be identified, the scholarship may support a<br />

pharmacy major in the College of Pharmacy<br />

and Health Sciences.<br />
