William Rollings College of Pharmacy<br />

Scholarship. Mr. Rollings, Class of 1953, made<br />

provisions in his will for <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>,<br />

with the funds to be used for scholarships “for<br />

bright students who are unable to afford their<br />

educational costs…” His bequest was directed<br />

to the College of Pharmacy and Health<br />

Sciences and was divided between this<br />

scholarship and an equipment fund.<br />

Endowed Salerni Award. Supported by gifts<br />

in honor of Dr. O. Leroy Salerni and from Dr.<br />

Salerni himself, this scholarship is administered<br />

by the Office of Financial Aid working with<br />

the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.<br />

It is given after the fall semester to the students<br />

with the highest grade in the Principles of Drug<br />

Action 1 course and the Principles of Drug<br />

Action 3 course; and again after the spring<br />

semester to the students with the highest grade<br />

in the Principles of Drug Action 2 course and<br />

the Introduction to Principles of Drug Action<br />

course. This is a merit-based award for worthy<br />

and capable students enrolled in the College<br />

of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and in good<br />

academic standing with the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Students will be recognized with a financial<br />

award of no less than $1,000 to be applied<br />

toward tuition.<br />

Joshua J. and Dr. Megan E. Schoenherr<br />

Scholarship. Megan Schoenherr received a<br />

Pharm.D. degree from <strong>Butler</strong> in 2006; her<br />

husband is a Purdue graduate. The couple<br />

established this scholarship to provide tuition<br />

assistance to students in the College of Pharmacy<br />

and Health Sciences, with preference given to<br />

pharmacy majors who are in the professional<br />

phase of the program, P1, P2, P3 or P4.<br />

St. Joseph County Pharmaceutical Corp.<br />

Award. Several COPHS graduates are members<br />

of the St. Joseph County Pharmaceutical<br />

Association. These graduates have donated<br />

funds to be used toward a scholarship to a<br />

COPHS student from St. Joseph County,<br />

Indiana. Recipients are pharmacy majors in<br />

their professional phase of the program. In<br />

the past, members of the Association have<br />

made recipient recommendations.<br />

Dr. Howard A. Swartz Memorial Fund. Family<br />

and friends began this endowed scholarship<br />

to honor the memory of Dr. Howard A. Swartz,<br />

a professor of bionucleonics in <strong>Butler</strong>’s College<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The College<br />

recommends recipients.<br />

David Trotter Memorial Scholarship in<br />

Pharmacy. Carroll and Betty Trotter established<br />

this scholarship in memory of their son, David<br />

Trotter, Class of 1980 and a member of Rho<br />

Chi. It awarded to pharmacy majors in good<br />

academic standing with the College of<br />

Pharmacy and Health Sciences.<br />

John J. Vasko Memorial Pharmacy Scholarship.<br />

Lois K. Vasko established this scholarship to<br />

honor the memory of her husband John J.<br />

Vasko, Class of 1956, who owned a drug store<br />

in Chicago for 15 years and later worked 24<br />

years for American Drug Stores and Osco<br />

Pharmacy. This scholarship is based on financial<br />

need, good academic standing, and high<br />

standards of ethics and integrity with letters<br />

from faculty to support this. Preference will<br />

be given to candidates who hold full-time jobs<br />

while in COPHS and/or students with families<br />

to support.<br />

Walgreens Minority Scholarship. Walgreens<br />

has been a strong advocate to the College of<br />

Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This scholarship<br />

was established to offer tuition assistance to a<br />

minority student majoring in pharmacy.<br />

Walmart Pharmacy Scholarship. The College<br />

of Pharmacy and Health Sciences appreciates<br />

the generous support of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.<br />

in providing financial assistance to pharmacy<br />

students. Recipients have high academic<br />

standing, financial need, strong leadership<br />

qualities and a desire to enter community<br />

practice upon graduation.<br />

Rhea and Henry West Scholarship. This<br />

scholarship is given exclusively to students who<br />

are majoring in pharmacy and who graduated<br />

from Terre Haute North Vigo High School.<br />

Loren and Sue Woerner Pharmacy Scholarship.<br />

Loren Woerner, Class of 1951, began his career<br />

in local pharmacies in Indianapolis before<br />

becoming a pharmaceutical manufacturer’s rep<br />

with Sharp & Dohme in late 1954, just as the<br />

company merged with Merck. He retired from<br />

Merck in 1990 as executive director of field<br />

operations. The Woerners created this scholarship<br />

to provide support to students in the<br />

professional program (P1, P2, P3 and P4) in<br />

the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
