Jo Wanda Gibbs Scholarship. This is a<br />
scholarship for an outstanding pledge of Kappa<br />
Alpha Theta sorority.<br />
Edwin J. and Kathryn F. Goss Endowed<br />
Scholarship. Ed and Kay Goss are loyal friends<br />
of <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> and support many diverse<br />
areas and programs. Mr. Goss served on the<br />
Board of Trustees from 1983 to 1998, when<br />
he was named trustee emeritus. This fund provides<br />
scholarships to full-time undergraduate<br />
students who have demonstrated high academic<br />
achievement and who are in good academic<br />
standing with the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Max Greenwald Scholarship. This scholarship<br />
was established by a bequest from the estate<br />
of Max Greenwald, a 48-year veteran sports<br />
writer for The Indianapolis Star. It is awarded<br />
to worthy students based on need.<br />
Margaret Jane Hamilton Memorial<br />
Scholarship. This scholarship was established<br />
by a bequest from the estate of Dorothy E.<br />
Hatch to be used annually to assist one or<br />
more female graduates of Indianapolis public<br />
high schools.<br />
Hargrove Family Endowed Scholarship. John<br />
and Mary Cheryl Hargrove established this<br />
scholarship in 2004 to salute student potential,<br />
measured not by grade point average or class<br />
rank, but by an upperclassman’s combination<br />
of academic achievement, contribution to<br />
the <strong>University</strong> community and demonstrated<br />
capacity for leadership.<br />
Miss Frieda P. Haseltine Scholarship. Frieda<br />
Haseltine, a member of the Class of 1916 and<br />
an Indiana journalist for nearly 50 years,<br />
provided funds to establish this scholarship.<br />
Harry F. and Georgia Flota Hergt Memorial<br />
Scholarship Fund. This is an endowed<br />
scholarship for worthy students established in<br />
1990 by the Georgia Flota Hergt Whalin estate.<br />
Edith Marie Overtree Hittle Scholarship. This<br />
fund was established in memory of a <strong>Butler</strong><br />
alumna from the Class of 1937 to give a helping<br />
hand to deserving young people endeavoring to<br />
further their education.<br />
Henrietta Waters Hudson Scholarship. This<br />
endowed scholarship was created by Henrietta<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />
Waters Hudson, who received her master of arts<br />
in education at <strong>Butler</strong> in 1934.<br />
James E. Hughes Scholarship. This scholarship<br />
was created through a trust established by<br />
the estate of James E. Hughes. It is for worthy<br />
students from Indiana high schools whose<br />
financial condition might preclude a college<br />
education.<br />
Ice Miller LLP Diversity Scholarship. This<br />
scholarship was established to honor the fact<br />
that people from all backgrounds long have<br />
been welcomed at <strong>Butler</strong> and Ice Miller, regardless<br />
of gender, race, ethnicity, national origin,<br />
religion, age, sexual orientation or disability.<br />
This scholarship provides assistance to a diverse<br />
student who demonstrates financial need.<br />
Indiana Federation of Clubs Scholarships. In an<br />
effort to help women students, this organization<br />
created a fund for the benefit of those who<br />
maintain good campus citizenship.<br />
Judith K. Johnson Endowed Scholarship.<br />
Judith Johnson, Class of 1961, has been an<br />
active and loyal alumna who served on <strong>Butler</strong>’s<br />
Board of Trustees for 14 years. She established<br />
this scholarship in 2007 to provide financial<br />
assistance to worthy full-time <strong>Butler</strong> students<br />
who are in good standing with the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
Nellie Kern Scholarship. This scholarship<br />
was established by a bequest from the estate<br />
of Penelope Virginia Kern, who received her<br />
undergraduate degree from <strong>Butler</strong> in 1900.<br />
She went on to receive her Ph.B. from the<br />
<strong>University</strong> of Chicago and her EdM from<br />
Harvard Graduate School of Education.<br />
She was a teacher in Brazil, Ind.<br />
Jean R. Kettler Scholarship. Established by<br />
the estate of Jean R. Kettler, Class of 1927,<br />
this scholarship will be awarded to students<br />
belonging to a sorority.<br />
Kiwanis/Lawrence E. and Maysel D. East<br />
Scholarship. Through the generosity and<br />
continuing interest in <strong>Butler</strong> by the Kiwanis<br />
Foundation of Indianapolis, this scholarship is<br />
awarded to a student selected on the basis of<br />
scholarship, leadership and citizenship.<br />
Bernard and Maude Lacy Scholarship. This<br />
is an unrestricted scholarship established by a<br />
bequest from the Lacy estate. Mr. Lacy founded
