Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA)<br />

application.<br />

• Students seeking professional PA Program<br />

admission by the automatic advancement<br />

option may count no more than two<br />

courses transferred from another university<br />

or awarded through advanced placement<br />

(AP) toward the calculation of their<br />

automatic advancement GPA.<br />

• Students must complete all prerequisite<br />

courses prior to matriculation to the<br />

professional phase (i.e., the PA program)<br />

in the fall while maintaining compliance<br />

with the GPA requirements. All math/<br />

science prerequisite courses must be<br />

completed by the end of the fourth semester<br />

of enrollment. Non-math/science prerequisite<br />

requirements may be completed during<br />

the summer prior to matriculation into the<br />

PA program.<br />

Any student that fails to meet any of the<br />

above criteria will be dismissed from the<br />

automatic advancement process, but may apply<br />

for admission through the standard admission<br />

process described below.<br />

Eligibility for automatic advancement into<br />

the PA1 year of the PA program ceases after the<br />

student’s initial review for professional phase<br />

admission at the end of their third semester at<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Standard Professional Phase<br />

Admission Process<br />

The written application takes into account<br />

a student’s academic background and record<br />

of performance. Prior health care experience is<br />

highly recommended but not required. Transfer<br />

students from other colleges or universities are<br />

encouraged to apply and must meet the additional<br />

requirements of <strong>Butler</strong> transfer students<br />

as outlined in this Bulletin if they have not<br />

completed a baccalaureate degree.<br />

The minimum eligibility requirements for<br />

the non-auto advance admission process are:<br />

• A cumulative GPA from all institutions of<br />

higher learning of at least a 3.0.<br />

• Successful completion or being in the<br />

process of successfully completing all but<br />

three of the required math/science preprofessional<br />

courses at the time of the<br />

fall submission of the application to the<br />

professional phase.<br />

• Completion of all math/science preprofessional<br />

courses (or their transfer<br />

equivalents) by the conclusion of the<br />

spring semester prior to matriculation<br />

into the professional phase.<br />

Note: Remaining liberal education/non-math/<br />

science courses may be completed any time<br />

prior to matriculation into the PA program.<br />
