functional understanding of personality<br />

development, normative responses to stress,<br />

psychosomatic manifestations of illness and<br />

injury, sexuality, responses to death and dying,<br />

and behavioral patterns related to the maintenance<br />

AP314, Issues in Professional Practice I: A<br />

course designed to introduce PA students to<br />

past, current and emerging health care delivery<br />

systems and methods of financing health care.<br />

Also explored are issues confronting practicing<br />

professionals such as ethics, quality/risk<br />

management, end-of-life decisions and<br />

professional liability. Prerequisite: Professional<br />

phase standing in the Physician Assistant<br />

AP350, Clinical Quality Improvement I:<br />

This course is part one of a two part series<br />

designed to prepare the PA student to apply<br />

the concepts of research design and statistical<br />

This course is designed to prepare students<br />

to apply the concepts of research design and<br />

statistical analysis within the clinical environment.<br />

Research skills developed in this course<br />

emphasize a systematic and scientific approach<br />

to problem solving. The course will focus<br />

primarily on clinical quality improvement<br />

designs and analysis. Prerequisite: AP350<br />

AP404, History and Physical Assessment I:<br />

Prepares the physician assistant to do a complete<br />

history and physical examination. Prerequisite:<br />

AP405, History and Physical Assessment II:<br />

A continuation of AP404. Prerequisite AP404,<br />

History and Physical Assessment I. (U)(4).<br />

AP406, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures:<br />

This course will introduce the student to<br />

clinical skills of both diagnostic and therapeutic<br />

value in order to screen for, prevent and treat<br />

disease entities. Prerequisite: Fourth-year standing<br />

AP408, Clinical Integration I: This course<br />

provides students with an opportunity to<br />

manage virtual patients by applying the<br />

knowledge, skills and attitudes developed<br />

in other professional physician assistant<br />

AP409, Clinical Integration II: A continuation<br />

of Clinical Integration I. Prerequisite: Successful<br />

completion of all fall PA2 coursework. (U)(1).<br />

AP410, EKG Interpretation: This course provides<br />

students with instruction in interpreting<br />

12-lead electrocardiograms for heart rate,<br />

rhythm, conduction system blocks, electrical<br />

axis, hypertrophy, ischemia, injury, infarction,<br />

and miscellaneous drug, electrolyte, disease and<br />

pacemaker effects. Prerequisite: Fourth-year<br />

standing in the Physician Assistant Program.<br />
