Accounting<br />

Carl S. Allegretti Scholarship. Established<br />

in 1996, this scholarship is awarded to an<br />

accounting major. Preference is given to student<br />

athletes.<br />

Joseph N. Allegretti Scholarships. These<br />

scholarships were established by Joseph N.<br />

Allegretti, Class of 1959, to be awarded in<br />

both the College of Business and the College<br />

of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to students<br />

who are residents of Lake or Porter County in<br />

Indiana. The COB scholarship is awarded on<br />

the basis of merit to a junior (heading into his<br />

or her senior year) majoring in accounting or a<br />

related field. The student must have a cumulative<br />

grade point average of 3.0 and be involved<br />

in an extracurricular activity. The COPHS<br />

Scholarship is awarded to a deserving fourthyear<br />

pharmacy student who has a cumulative<br />

3.0 grade point average and who is involved in<br />

an extracurricular activity.<br />

Theodore E. and Elizabeth F. Crook Scholarship.<br />

This endowed fund was made possible<br />

by a bequest from the estates of Elizabeth F.<br />

and Theodore E. Crook. Mr. Crook attended<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> in the 1930s and was a guest lecturer at<br />

the <strong>University</strong> in the 1950s. This scholarship<br />

is administered by the Office of Financial Aid<br />

working with the College of Business scholarship<br />

committee. Recipients must be enrolled in<br />

the College of Business, have an interest in<br />

accounting and/or auditing, and exhibit financial<br />

need and good character. It is renewable,<br />

and multiple recipients may be selected. The<br />

Crooks’ daughter, Patricia Crook Bennett, is a<br />

1961 pharmacy graduate and has endowed the<br />

Patricia Crook Bennett Scholarship to benefit<br />

pharmacy students.<br />

Crowe Horwath Outstanding Accounting<br />

Student Scholarship. The fund provides<br />

tuition assistance to a full time student majoring<br />

in accounting and entering his or her senior<br />

year. Preference is given to a <strong>Butler</strong> student<br />

majoring in accounting; a 3.3 grade point in all<br />

accounting classes and an overall grade point<br />

average of 3.3; exceptional leadership skills as<br />

demonstrated on campus and a graduate of a<br />

United States high school.<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

Carl H. and Thelma R. Daye Scholarship.<br />

The estate of Carl H. and Thelma R. Daye<br />

established this fund. Mr. Daye attended <strong>Butler</strong><br />

on the GI Bill; in 1944, he was badly injured<br />

but was the sole survivor of a transport plane<br />

crash. He felt his <strong>Butler</strong> degree in accounting<br />

prepared him for his long and distinguished<br />

career as director of auditing with the federal<br />

government. This award benefits accounting<br />

students, with preference given to students,<br />

who are supporting themselves or who are from<br />

a single-parent home.<br />

Ernst and Young Master of Professional<br />

Accounting Scholarship. This fund provides<br />

financial assistance to students enrolled in the<br />

master of professional accounting program in<br />

the College of Business. Preference is given to<br />

a <strong>Butler</strong> College of Business graduate with an<br />

accounting degree; a grade point average of 3.5<br />

in all accounting courses and an overall grade<br />

point average of 3.2; commitment to a career<br />

in professional services; and demonstrated<br />

leadership ability on campus and/or in the<br />

community.<br />

Hubert F. Fowler Endowed Scholarship.<br />

Hubert Fowler, Class of 1946, distinguished<br />

himself as a businessman and public servant<br />

during a long and successful career in accounting.<br />

Fowler’s family and many friends and associates<br />

established this scholarship to honor his life.<br />

Scholarships are awarded to accounting students<br />

based upon need and academic performance.<br />

Joe Marcheggiani/Zotec Partners LLC<br />

Scholarship. T. Scott Law, Class of 1985 and<br />

president of Zotec Partners LLC, established<br />

this scholarship to honor Joe Marcheggiani for<br />

his impact on the donor’s career and beyond.<br />

Professor Marcheggiani taught accounting at<br />

<strong>Butler</strong> from 1981 to 2004, when he was named<br />

professor emeritus. Preference is given to<br />

sophomore, junior and rising senior accounting<br />

majors. If such a student cannot be identified,<br />

an award may be made to an incoming freshman.<br />

Rebecca Smith Merlina and Margaret Smith<br />

Linden Scholarship. This fund was established<br />

by Rebecca Smith Merlina, Class of 1988, and<br />

her husband Dominic Merlina, Classes of 1985<br />

and 1986; her sister Margaret Smith Linden<br />

and her husband R. Mark Linden, both Class<br />

of 1995; and Becky and Meg’s parents, J. Stephen<br />

and Barbara Smith. It provides financial
