DA311, Performance Lab: Laboratory course<br />

for dance majors to serve as performers for<br />

DA351, <strong>Butler</strong> Ballet — Junior: All performance<br />

groups are selected by the choreographer<br />

in line with the particular needs of the work<br />

being produced. Participation in more than<br />

one group is possible. Prerequisite: DA252 or<br />

consent of department chair. (U)(2).<br />

DA352, <strong>Butler</strong> Ballet — Junior: Continuation<br />

of DA351. Prerequisite: DA351 or consent<br />

of department chair. (U)(2).<br />

DA451, <strong>Butler</strong> Ballet — Senior: All performance<br />

groups are selected by the choreographer<br />

in line with the particular needs of the work<br />

being produced. Participation in more than<br />

one group is possible. Prerequisite: DA352 or<br />

consent of department chair. (U)(2).<br />

DA452, <strong>Butler</strong> Ballet — Senior: Continuation<br />

of DA451. Prerequisite: DA451 or consent<br />

Performance Attendance Courses<br />

Unless otherwise indicated, all odd-numbered<br />

courses are offered in the fall and all<br />

even-numbered courses are offered in the spring.<br />

DA190, Performance Attendance: New<br />

Students/Freshmen dance majors and secondary<br />

dance majors will attend 10 performances<br />

per academic year, four to six will include<br />

post-performance discussions in appropriate<br />

dance classes. Annual distribution includes two<br />

to three in theatre, three to four in music and<br />

the remainder in dance, art museum visits, art<br />

exhibitions and/or arts-related lectures. Pass/<br />

Fail credit. (U)(0).<br />

DA290, Performance Attendance: Sophomore<br />

dance majors and secondary dance majors will<br />

attend eight performances per year, two to three<br />

per each discipline in theatre, music, dance, art<br />

museum visits, art exhibitions and/or artsrelated<br />

lectures. Pass/Fail credit. Prerequisite:<br />

DA190. (U)(0).<br />

DA390, Performance Attendance: Junior<br />

dance majors and secondary majors will attend<br />

six performances per year, two per each<br />

discipline but not including performances<br />

in the field of dance. The disciplines include<br />

theatre, music, art museum visits, art exhibitions<br />

and arts-related lectures. Pass/Fail credit.<br />

DA161, Body Placement I: A course for dance<br />

majors explaining the proper postural alignment<br />

of the body utilizing one or more of the<br />

following methods: Bartenieff Fundamentals of<br />

Movement, Alexander Technique and Pilates<br />

Technique. (U)(1).<br />

DA162, Body Placement II: A course for<br />

dance majors explaining the proper postural<br />

alignment of the body utilizing one or more of<br />

the following methods: Bartenieff Fundamentals<br />

of Movement, Alexander Technique and<br />

Pilates Technique. Prerequisite: DA161. (U)(1).<br />

DA166, Masterworks of Dance: Introduction<br />

to major ballet and modern dance works,<br />

presented on video, briefly analyzed and placed<br />

in context. The course also examines ways that<br />

information literacy is a necessary component<br />

to academic research. No prerequisite. (U)(2).<br />

DA261, Laban Movement Analysis: Elementary<br />

concepts in the major 20th century theory<br />

of movement: exploration of the aspects of<br />

shape, space and efforts (movement qualities).<br />

No prerequisite. (U)(2). Fall and spring.<br />

DA263, Music for Dance — Theory:<br />

Elements of music theory for dancers, covering<br />

basic concepts such as meters, rhythms, key<br />

signature and basic chords. Two meetings per<br />

week. No prerequisite. (U)(1).<br />
