Francisco Opera Ballet and the Chicago Opera<br />
Ballet before joining the faculty of the Jordan<br />
Conservatory (later College) of Music, where<br />
she developed a course of instruction in dance.<br />
Margaret Sear Rosenblith Memorial Scholarship.<br />
This award was established in memory<br />
of Margaret Sear Rosenblith, a distinguished<br />
<strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong> ballet faculty member in both<br />
the collegiate Department of Dance and the<br />
Jordan College Special Instruction Division<br />
in Dance (known as the Jordan Academy of<br />
Dance). Margaret was killed in a tragic car<br />
accident in 1956. Funds for the awards were<br />
generated by donations from former students,<br />
friends and proceeds from an annual benefit<br />
concert presented by her husband Eric Rosenblith<br />
and friends. Eric Rosenblith passed away<br />
December 2010 at the age of 90. The award is<br />
intended to support further studies in dance.<br />
Lynnette Jordan Schisla Scholarship in<br />
Dance. This scholarship honors Lynnette<br />
Jordan Schisla, Class of 1960 M.A. ’72. She<br />
taught in her own studio for 25 years before<br />
joining the faculty at Ball State <strong>University</strong>,<br />
where she had great impact on the dance<br />
program. Recipients are dance majors in the<br />
Jordan College of Fine Arts, with preference<br />
given to upperclass students with wide-ranging<br />
interests in the performing arts, rather than a<br />
particular discipline within dance.<br />
Music<br />
Mildred Allen Memorial Endowed Piano<br />
Scholarship. Mildred Allen established this<br />
scholarship through a gift from her estate. The<br />
dean of the Jordan College of Fine Arts will<br />
select recipients based on merit and financial<br />
need. Recipients must be music majors whose<br />
principal instrument is the piano. The recipient<br />
or recipients will be asked to perform at a<br />
meeting of the Irvington Music Study Club<br />
as arranged by the dean.<br />
encourage students who have demonstrated the<br />
capacity to achieve educational and professional<br />
goals. The award is based on financial need and<br />
academic ability.<br />
Frances Brockman Music Scholarship. This<br />
fund was established by a bequest from Frances<br />
Brockman, Class of 1951. While majoring in<br />
chemistry at <strong>Butler</strong>, she played the trumpet in<br />
the <strong>Butler</strong> Marching Band. This scholarship<br />
benefits music majors in the Jordan College of<br />
Fine Arts. The same bequest also established the<br />
Frances A. Brockman Chemistry scholarship in<br />
the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.<br />
Eddy and Beth Brown Music Fund. A<br />
bequest from the estate of Beth Lydy Brown,<br />
opera singer and wife of Eddy Brown, along<br />
with gifts in memory of Eddy Brown, provides<br />
financial assistance to young violinists and<br />
singers. Mr. Brown became the Jordan College<br />
of Fine Arts’ first artist-in-residence in 1971<br />
and was known as one of America’s greatest<br />
violinists. He made his first concert appearance<br />
at age 5. Awards are to be made to artists of<br />
exceptional ability, merit and need.<br />
Sylvia Feibelman Budd and Clarence Budd<br />
Scholarship Fund. The estates of Sylvia and<br />
Clarence Budd endowed this scholarship in<br />
memory of his brother, Lester, Class of 1972.<br />
Scholarships are awarded to Jordan College of<br />
Fine Arts undergraduates in the Department of<br />
Music. Recipients must be academically gifted<br />
and show financial need.<br />
Ruth E. Comer Music Scholarship. This<br />
scholarship was established by a bequest from<br />
the estate of Ruth E. Comer, a 1932 graduate<br />
of <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s School of Music. She<br />
went on to a career as a professional musician<br />
with several national orchestras. The fund was<br />
established to assist deserving and qualified<br />
music students.<br />
May Dorsey Music Scholarship. This music<br />
scholarship was established in 1989 through a<br />
bequest from the estate of May Dorsey, a music<br />
performance major at <strong>Butler</strong> who received her<br />
master’s degree in 1937.<br />
Matthew D. Boughton Memorial Music<br />
Scholarship Fund. Family and friends of<br />
Matthew D. Boughton endowed a scholarship<br />
to honor his memory. Matt Boughton was a<br />
1979 alumnus of the music program in the<br />
Iva Eidson Duckwall Memorial Scholarship.<br />
Jordan College of Fine Arts and successfully<br />
Iva Duckwall was a faculty member of the<br />
pursued his music and his dreams with verve<br />
Jordan Conservatory of Music, which later<br />
and commitment. This award, to benefit<br />
became part of <strong>Butler</strong>’s Jordan College of Fine<br />
worthy and capable music students during<br />
Arts. She was also the mother of Ruth Duckwall<br />
their junior and senior years, is intended to<br />
