RX642, Geriatric Therapeutics: A study of<br />

the physiologic and pharmacokinetic changes<br />

that occur with aging and how these changes<br />

affect drug therapy. Management of disease will<br />

be discussed and evaluated. This course will<br />

provide the student with knowledge for making<br />

therapeutic decisions in the elderly. Prerequisite:<br />

Completion of all fourth-year Pharm.D.<br />

courses or permission of instructor. (U/G)(3).<br />

RX644, Women’s Health Issues: This course<br />

will include discussions on health issues that<br />

primarily affect women. Topics include menopause,<br />

breast cancer, silicone breast implants,<br />

systemic lupus, infertility, contraception,<br />

pregnancy, osteoporosis, women and heart<br />

disease, and other issues causing illness or<br />

death of women including domestic violence.<br />

Prerequisites: RX413, RX414. Pre- or<br />

corequisite: RX513. (U)(3). Variable.<br />

RX645, Pharmaceutical Literature: An exploration<br />

of sources of information applicable to<br />

the pharmaceutical sciences and a systematic<br />

approach to literature searches. One class<br />

hour per week. Prerequisite: Completion of all<br />

fourth-year Pharm.D. courses, or permission of<br />

instructor. (U/G)(1). Variable.<br />

RX647, Exploring Public Health: In this<br />

interactive course, students are encouraged to<br />

examine, explore and solve public health issues<br />

of interest and examine solutions for the same.<br />

It will allow students to think critically about<br />

how to identify and address current health<br />

issues from childhood immunizations to toxic<br />

exposures in the work place. (U)(3). Variable.<br />

RX649, Neurobiology of Stress and Trauma:<br />

Students will learn to understand the neuropathological<br />

effects of stress from a systems,<br />

developmental, neurochemical, cellular and<br />

molecular perspective. This course examines<br />

the phenomenology and neurobiological<br />

mechanisms associated with stress and trauma<br />

as they relate to the topics to be covered.<br />

RX651, Administration and Management<br />

Rotation: This rotation provides the student<br />

pharmacist the opportunity to develop skills in<br />

fiscal, organization and personnel management<br />

of the pharmacy. Prerequisite: P-4 standing (U)<br />

RX652, Advanced Ambulatory Care Rotation:<br />

This rotation provides the student pharmacist<br />

with further experience in application of therapeutic<br />

principles to the patient in the ambulatory<br />

setting. Prerequisite: P–4 standing. (U)(4).<br />

RX654, Advanced General Medicine Rotation:<br />

This rotation stresses the pharmacist’s role in<br />

proper drug therapy, patient education, drug<br />

administration techniques and delivery of<br />

pharmacy services to hospitalized and<br />

ambulatory patients. Prerequisite: P–4<br />

standing. (U)(4). Variable.<br />

RX655, Prescription Compounding Rotation:<br />

This rotation provides the student pharmacist<br />

experience in the extemporaneous compounding<br />

of medicinal products and will be used for<br />

the treatment and/or prevention of disease in<br />

humans. Prerequisite: P–4 standing. (U)(4).<br />

RX656, Alternative And Complementary<br />

Medicine Rotation: This rotation provides the<br />

student pharmacist with experience in the use<br />

of herbal, probiotic, nutritional and other<br />

alternative modalities. Prerequisite: P–4<br />

standing. (U)(4). Variable.<br />

RX657, Ambulatory Care Rotation: This<br />

rotation develops the student pharmacist’s<br />

knowledge and problem-solving skills in the<br />

application of therapeutic principles to the care<br />

of patients receiving care in the ambulatory<br />

medicine clinic. Prerequisite: P–4 standing.<br />

RX658, Cardiology Rotation: This rotation<br />

develops the student pharmacist’s knowledge<br />

and problem-solving skills in the application<br />

of therapeutic principles to the care of patients<br />

who have cardiovascular disorders. Prerequisite:<br />

RX650, Academic Experience Rotation: P–4 standing. (U)(4). Variable.<br />
