The DoS provides an indication <strong>of</strong> the overall performance <strong>of</strong> each intersection and is<br />

a better overall indicator than either the level <strong>of</strong> service or queue length.<br />

When the DoS exceeds 80 to 85 per cent overflow queues start to become a problem<br />

(as shown by the cells shaded grey with bold text in the table below). Satisfactory<br />

intersection operation is generally achieved with a DoS <strong>of</strong> 70 to 80 per cent or less.<br />

Performance data for all major intersections within the proposal footprint are<br />

described further in Appendix C.<br />
