The construction activities required at each work site are described in Table 3-3 to<br />

Table 3-7 with a summary provided in Table 3-2. They include:<br />

The installation <strong>of</strong> equipment to support temporary traffic management controls<br />

The installation <strong>of</strong> equipment to support temporary footpath restrictions<br />

Major equipment relocation<br />

Tree removal and punning<br />

Ground excavation work associated with utility adjustments, drainage<br />

modifications and general signal, lighting pole and traffic signal relocations<br />

Regarding and resurfacing the road<br />

Adjustments to the footpaths, kerbs and intersections requiring cutting, grinding<br />

and sawing.<br />

Streetscape character would also be impacted by general construction activities, dust<br />

generation, amenity affects (including noise and vibration impacts), loading and<br />

unloading activities, the presence <strong>of</strong> construction equipment, and the bollards,<br />

fencing and hoardings that would be used to demark all active working areas.<br />

The above <strong>factors</strong> were considered in determining the proposal’s landscape and<br />

streetscape impacts. Whilst the construction impacts would depend on the activities<br />

taking place in a given location and the duration <strong>of</strong> the activities, it was broadly<br />

assessed that the more major supporting work and traffic capa<strong>city</strong> improvements<br />

(refer to Table 3-2) would require a greater level <strong>of</strong> construction activity in a given<br />

location for a longer period <strong>of</strong> time. On this basis the following impact magnitude<br />

ratings were used to assess the impact on landscape and streetscape character:<br />

Intersection reconfiguration and geometry modifications: low-high<br />

Kerb extension alterations: low-high<br />

Footpath width alterations: low-high<br />

Turning restrictions and provisions: low<br />

Kerbside allocation modifications: low<br />

Lane arrangements: low<br />

Supporting work:<br />

- Major equipment relocation: low-moderate<br />

- Tree pruning or removal: low-moderate<br />

- Bus lane marking alterations or instalment: low<br />

- Road regrading and resurfacing: low-moderate<br />

- Traffic signal and lighting pole works: low<br />

- Surface drainage modification and relocation: low<br />

- Bus shelter relocation: low<br />

- Utility works: low-moderate.<br />

The above ratings were applied to the construction activity taking place in each<br />

location as described in Table 3-3 to Table 3-7 and assessed against the sensitivity<br />

<strong>of</strong> the landscape and streetscape to change as set out in Table 6-39. The<br />

assessment considered the highest impact magnitude rating occurring within a given<br />

work site and applied it to the whole work site. It did not differentiate between<br />

variability in the type and scale <strong>of</strong> activity within a work site.<br />

Table 6-43 provides a summary <strong>of</strong> the construction impacts on the landscape and<br />

streetscape character <strong>of</strong> the study area.<br />
