The above summary reflects that the study area’s extensive development,<br />

redevelopment and associated ground disturbance over the past 180 years has<br />

notably limited its archaeological potential.<br />

In most cases, the scale <strong>of</strong> the works and the limited depth <strong>of</strong> excavation would avoid<br />

archaeological impacts. Potential impacts would only occur as a result <strong>of</strong> excavating<br />

below the existing road surface or within the footpath and potential curtilage <strong>of</strong><br />

existing buildings. There are 22 locations (refer to Table 6-24) where deeper<br />

excavations are proposed in areas that have been less-disturbed. These areas have<br />

the potential to contain important archaeological deposits. The greatest potential<br />

archaeological risk is associated with location C1: Wentworth Avenue at the Oxford<br />

Street intersection due to the need to excavate above the Busby’s Bore.<br />

6.3.4 Safeguards and management measures<br />

Table 6-25 lists the non-Aboriginal safeguards and management measures that<br />

would be implemented to account for the potential impacts identified above in<br />

section 6.3.3.<br />
