Development precincts<br />

Development precinct<br />

Precinct 1: north west<br />

Barangaroo: The Barangaroo precinct will provide<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice space for 23,000 workers and residential<br />

accommodation for 20,000 people. The precinct<br />

includes Barangaroo South, Barangaroo Central<br />

and Barangaroo North (Headland Park). This<br />

precinct includes Wynyard Walk; a new<br />

underground pedestrian link between Wynyard<br />

Station and the intersection <strong>of</strong> Kent Street and<br />

Napoleon Street.<br />

Precinct 1: north west and Precinct 2: retail<br />

City Centre: The <strong>city</strong> <strong>centre</strong> precinct will deliver<br />

urban streetscape improvements along the<br />

alignment <strong>of</strong> the approved CSELR corridor. The<br />

most significant is the pedestrianisation <strong>of</strong> part <strong>of</strong><br />

George Street.<br />

Circular Quay: Circular Quay strategic framework<br />

(Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, 2014) covers<br />

38 identified projects between the Sydney Opera<br />

House and Dawes Point Park. It includes the<br />

planned upgrade <strong>of</strong> the Overseas Passenger<br />

Terminal and ferry wharves, in addition to the<br />

redesign <strong>of</strong> bus network infrastructure and general<br />

improvements to transport access, walkways and<br />

the public domain, including the creation <strong>of</strong> a<br />

pedestrian zone in Circular Quay.<br />

Precinct 2: retail<br />

Darling Harbour: Darling Harbour Development<br />

Plan No.1 covers the development <strong>of</strong> tourist,<br />

educational, recreational, entertainment, cultural<br />

and commercial facilities within and around Darling<br />

Harbour. This includes the development <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and<br />

Entertainment Centre Precinct (SICEEP).<br />

Alfred, Pitt, Dalley and George Street (APDG): The<br />

redevelopment <strong>of</strong> the APDG site (bounded by Alfred<br />

Street, Pitt Street, Dalley Street and George Street<br />

at Circular Quay) is to include commercial,<br />

residential and retail land uses.<br />

Precinct 3: southern<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Technology City Campus: The<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Technology City Campus Master Plan<br />

covers the redevelopment <strong>of</strong> the central campus<br />

sites located <strong>of</strong>f Harris Street and Broadway.<br />

Current development status<br />

Under construction. Developed in<br />

phases, the first <strong>of</strong> which<br />

(Barangaroo North) will be<br />

operational by 2015. Wynyard<br />

Walk will open in 2016.<br />

Construction is planned to start in<br />

2015. The George Street<br />

pedestrian zone will be in place<br />

by 2016/2017 and the CSELR will<br />

operate from 2020.<br />

Overseas passenger terminal<br />

Under construction. It will be fully<br />

upgraded by the end <strong>of</strong> 2014 or<br />

early 2015<br />

Ferry wharf upgrade<br />

Announced in July 2014<br />

Under construction. It will be fully<br />

operational in 2016.<br />

Under construction. Phased<br />

operation between 2015 and<br />

2017.<br />

Partially upgraded. Developed in<br />

phases, the last <strong>of</strong> which would<br />

start construction in 2016 and<br />

become operational in 2018.<br />
