Preface
This manual contains information you need in order to safely install, align,
operate, maintain, and service your Model 3950,3950C, 3950D picosecond
(ps) or 3960, 3960C, 39601) femtosecond (fs) Tsunami laser.
The "Introduction" contains a brief description of the various Tsunami
laser configurations and explains how each model can be converted for fs
or ps operation and, if desired, adapted for Lok-to-Clock" operation. Following
that section is an important chapter on safety. Be sure to read this
chapter. "Laser Description" contains a discussion of Titanium:sapphire
laser theory, and provides a more detailed description of the Tsunami laser.
It concludes with system specifications.
The middle chapters describe the Tsunami controls, then guide you
through its installation, alignment and operation. A separate chapter
covers the Model 3930 Lok-to-Clock electronics module. The last part of
the manual covers maintenance and service, and includes a replacement
parts list and a list of world-wide Spectra-Physics Lasers Service Centers
you can call if you need help.
The "Maintenance" section contains information you need to keep your
laser clean and operational on a day-to-day basis, where-as "Service and
Repair" is intended to help you guide your Spectra-Physics Lasers field
service engineer to the source of any problems. Do not attempt repairs
yourselfwhile the unit is still under warranty; instead, report all problems
to Spectra-Physics Lasers for warranty repair.
Appendices A and B provide information on short pulse formation in the
mode-locked Tsunami laser and pulse width measurement.
Tsunami is designed for use with Spectra-Physics BeamLok" -series
lasers. These lasers, as well as the Tsunami, are Class IV lasers. They emit
laser radiation which can permanently damage eyes and skin. The "Laser
Safety" section contains information about these hazards and offers suggestions
on how to safeguard against them. To minimize the risk of injury
or expensive repairs, carefully follow these instructions.
