Vertically and horizontally adjust the tilt of P2 to direct the pump<br />

beam through M3 and the rod, and center the emerging beam on M2<br />

(Figure 6-5 and Figure 6-6).<br />

<strong>Center</strong>ing the beam on the intracavity surfaces of M2 and M3 is critical<br />

for proper mode overlap in the rod. If the beam is centered on M2 but<br />

not on M3, walk the pump beam on P2, adjusting both PA and P2, until<br />

proper alignment is achieved.<br />

13. Align cavity focus mirror M2.<br />

Adjust M2 vertically and horizontally to direct the small amount of<br />

pump light reflected from M2 though the center of MI.<br />

14. Adjust the focus of M2 and MS.<br />

Use an ir viewer and white card for the following steps.<br />

a. Place the white card in front of M4.<br />

b. Increase the pump laser to nominal power.<br />

c. Adjust M3 vertically and horizontally to center the image on M4.
