Clinical Work Practice and Supervision<br />

All trainees must:<br />

- Undertake a substantial period <strong>of</strong> clinical practice (12-20 weeks) in<br />

a wide variety <strong>of</strong> settings<br />

- Undergo clinical supervision when working clinically<br />

Organization and location <strong>of</strong> placements must be adequately<br />

resourced and planned<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Skills Required<br />

- Ability to take responsibility and accept direction and guidance<br />

- Ability to establish a good working relationship with all colleagues<br />

- Awareness <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional and institutional code <strong>of</strong> ethics<br />

- Insight and self awareness resulting from having personal therapy<br />

whilst training<br />

- Experience <strong>of</strong> working in a multi-disciplinary team, sharing and<br />

accessing<br />

appropriate information, observing confidentiality and health and<br />

safety<br />

requirements<br />

- Skills <strong>of</strong> written verbal case presentation and verbal record<br />

keeping<br />

- Direct experience <strong>of</strong> working with at least two contrasted client<br />

groups <strong>of</strong> which at least 1 should be in adult or child mental<br />

health or emotional/behavioural disorder, at least 1 should and at<br />

least 1 in adult or child learning disability<br />

- Experience <strong>of</strong> carrying out referral and assessment procedures<br />

and taking clinical responsibility under supervision<br />

- Knowledge <strong>of</strong> the range <strong>of</strong> institutional and community settings in<br />

which music therapy is provided, the general needs <strong>of</strong> those<br />

clients, and the contribution <strong>of</strong> music therapy towards meeting<br />

them<br />

- An understanding <strong>of</strong> institutional dynamics and their effect on<br />

client functioning<br />

Personal <strong>Therapy</strong> (General)<br />

All trainees must be in personal therapy throughout the course<br />

preferably <strong>of</strong>f-site and with a therapist not involved with the course, but<br />

recommended by the course<br />
