Finland<br />

1. Tampere Institute <strong>of</strong> Social Work: Degree programme in<br />

rehabilitation option: <strong>Music</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong>.<br />

A 3.5-year study in music therapy. Entry requirement is a bachelor’s degree<br />

in music, health care or social services.<br />

The main orientation <strong>of</strong> the programme is rehabilitation, and<br />

psychotherapeutic studies are also emphasised<br />

Studies include:<br />

Courses in Rehabilitation<br />

<strong>Music</strong> Studies: Instrumental instruction, computer music, music theory and<br />

notation, sound recording, basics <strong>of</strong> music.<br />

<strong>Music</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong> studies: Basics <strong>of</strong> music therapy, therapeutic approach,<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional practice, research in therapy, music therapy methods<br />

Group <strong>Therapy</strong> and Group Process: a taught course rather than an<br />

experiential course.<br />

Creative therapies.<br />

Masters Thesis written at the end <strong>of</strong> the study leads to Master's<br />

qualification.<br />

2. North Karelia Polytechnic. Outokumpu: Degree programme in Social<br />

Welfare Work: Specialisation line <strong>of</strong> Creative Arts/<strong>Music</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong>.<br />

Eclectic training <strong>of</strong> 3.5 years. The approaches taught are psychoanalytical,<br />

psychodynamic, humanistic-existential, learning-theoretical, and<br />

constructive.<br />
