Denmark:<br />

Aalborg University - Five year Integrated Bachelors/Masters Education<br />

The Danish Model is a five-year (full time) integrated music therapy<br />

training. Entry criteria from 21 years <strong>of</strong> age (though frequently student’s<br />

ages range from 23-35 on entry) include high pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in musical skills.<br />

The educational philosophy and foundation is primarily Analytical <strong>Music</strong><br />

<strong>Therapy</strong>, and music therapy practised within a psychotherapeutic<br />

framework.<br />

The four elements within the course are:<br />

<strong>Music</strong>al Studies: instrumental and vocal, group ensemble, intuitive music,<br />

auditory and keyboard training, guitar, percussion, clinical keyboard skills<br />

and Graphic Notation.<br />

Theoretical Studies: Psychology, psychiatry, psychology <strong>of</strong> music, theory <strong>of</strong><br />

science, theory <strong>of</strong> therapy, theory <strong>of</strong> music therapy, qualitative and<br />

quantitative research methods, music therapy research.<br />

Experiential Training in <strong>Music</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong>: Psychodynamic movement, Group<br />

therapy, individual music therapy, clinical group music therapy,<br />

psychodynamic group leading, intertherapy.<br />

Practicum training: three observational placements, two short practicums<br />

(1 day a week for 15 weeks) in psychiatry, learning disability or social<br />

services, one long practicum (6 months).<br />

Qualification from the course is a Master's Degree in <strong>Music</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong><br />

(Cand.Mag).<br />

Sweden<br />

1. Part Time <strong>Music</strong> <strong>Therapy</strong> training at Musikhogskolan I Stockholm over<br />

three years (soon extended to four years).<br />

Individual therapy<br />

<strong>Music</strong> psychology<br />
