British Visitor Permit (BVP)All athletes bringing firearms into the UK, other than air weapons, will require a BritishVisitor Permit (BVP). BVPs are valid for up to 12 months. Athletes should, therefore,only need one BVP to compete in both the test event and the London 2012 Games.BVPs are required for the following Paralympic gun types:RiflePistolPistol.22 (5.6mm) single shot target rifles.22 single shot target pistols.22 five shot magazine rapid fire and sport target pistolsAll athletes importing ammunition are required to list their ammunition on the BVPobtained for their weapon.European Firearms Pass (EFP)In addition to a BVP, athletes from an EU member state will also require a EuropeanFirearms Pass (EFP), which is issued in the athlete’s country of residence. An EFP willnot be required for air weapons. A BVP can only last for as long as an athlete’s EFP isvalid. Therefore, teams must check that every athlete’s EFP will be valid until 30September 2012 before applying for a BVP for that athlete.How to apply for a BVPLOCOG has delegated the management of the BVP application process to theNational Small-bore Rifle Association (NSRA), the national governing body for theOlympic and Paralympic rifle and pistol disciplines in Great Britain.In August, a BVP information pack and application form will be posted on TheExchange. This application form should be completed and returned to the NSRA nolater than 31 December 2011. The forms contain the details of the athletes and theweapons that they will be bringing to the UK for the London 2012 Games.One BVP application form can be submitted for a group of up to 20 athletes. As it isunlikely that the NPCs will have confirmed selection for the London 2012 Games atthis early date, teams must ensure that the application form includes the names of allthose who may compete in the London 2012 Games and any weapons that thoseindividuals might use.
