JORDAN PART 2: COUNTRY ANALYSIS<br />

Jordan’s estimated US$120-140 million Wadi Main, Zahra and Mujib DBO water treatment scheme<br />

was won by a JV between ABB SUSA and Earth Tech (Tyco). The 55million m 3 per day spring water<br />

treatment plant is being funded by USAID.<br />

A 25 year concession to pump and distribute 100 million m 3 of water per day 325km from the Disi<br />

aquifer has been under consideration since 1998. Capital spending of US$625 million will be<br />

required. Five groups have pre-qualified to bid for the project, with US$200 million provided by the<br />

Jordanian Government and the Social Security Corporation. In July <strong>2005</strong>, it was announced that the<br />

bidding process would be resumed.<br />

A five plus five year management contract for water services in the Northern Governates (Irbid,<br />

Jerash, Ajloun and Mafraq) is currently at the bidding stage.<br />

A water treatment BOT for Northern Jordan<br />

Suez’s Ondeo Degrémont, Ondeo and Morganti of the USA have been awarded a 25 year BOT for a<br />

530,000m 3 per day water treatment plant in Northern Jordan. US Aid, the US Agency for International<br />

Development is providing 60% of the project's US$169 million cost, with the rest coming from local<br />

sources. The As-Samra facility will replace an existing waste stabilization pond treatment system and<br />

will provide drinking water to about 2 million residents in the Jordanian capital Amman and<br />

surrounding towns. Construction started in May 2004, with the consortium running the plant from<br />

<strong>2006</strong>-28.<br />
