In October 2003, Grupo Dragados SA (GD) merged with ACS, Actividades de Construccion y<br />

Servidos SA (ACS) and its activities were subsumed within the enlarged group. Urbaser, the water<br />

and waste management services arm of Dragados is now the principal component of the<br />

Environmental Services section of the Services and Concessions Division.<br />

Urbaser has a number of major concessions, including the Huesnar water and sewage treatment<br />

works concession for Seville (1993), serving 220,000 people in 15 towns. The concession will<br />

generate Ptas60 billion over its 25 year life. In 1999, Urbaser gained a 30 year (extendable to 50<br />

years) concession worth Ptas25 billion serving 150,000 people in the Spanish district of El Ferrol. The<br />

Environment division had revenues of €903 million in 2002, rising to €1,001 million in 2004.<br />

1999 Missiones Province 30 year concession 300,000 water & sewerage<br />

The Servicio de Aguas de Missiones (SAMSA) concession was awarded in August 1999, and serves<br />

the cities of Posada and Garupa involving the upgrading of water provision networks and in the longer<br />

term developing sewerage and sewage treatment facilities. <strong>Water</strong> will be supplied to the cities from<br />

the Parana River. A total investment of Ptas31.9 million is to be made over two phases, with partial<br />

funding from the World Bank for the initial phase. Revenues of Ptas120 billion will be generated over<br />

the life of the concession.<br />

1999 Aguas del Gran BA 30 year concession 1.8 million water & sewage<br />

GD paid US$44 million for its 27% share of Aguas del Gran Buenos Aries, in the metropolitan area of<br />

the city. Its Spanish partners are Impregilo (31%) and Aguas de Bilbao (20%), and the concession<br />

was awarded in December 1999. Revenues over the concession life will be Ptas 600 billion, with<br />

capital spending of Ptas166 billion.<br />
