Czech Republic<br />

1993 Brno (BVK) 25 year concession 420,000 water & sewerage<br />

1994 Ostrava 30 year concession 330,000 water & sewerage<br />

1996 South Moravia 25 year concession 350,000 water & sewerage<br />

Suez holds 46% of BVK, the operating company in Brno. The concession was extended for a 25 year<br />

period in October 1999 (starting from 2000). The new concession involves upgrading the wastewater<br />

treatment plant to meet the EU’s UWWTD criteria.<br />

1994 Karlovy Vary 25 year concession 120,000 water & sewerage<br />

Karloy Vary is based in North Moravia. Suez holds 50% of VAK, the operating company’s equity.<br />

1999 Ostrava area 15 year concession 0.75 million water & sewerage<br />

AWG and Suez acquired approximately 76% of the equity of Severomoravske Vodovody a Kanalizace<br />

AS (SmVAK) from the municipalities and small shareholders in the region during 1999. Suez holds<br />

44% of SmVAK.<br />

2000 Benesov 38,000 water & sewerage<br />

2000 Davle 37,000 water & sewerage<br />

2001 Sumperk Concession 120,000 water & wastewater<br />

82% of Sumperska Provozni Vodohospoda Ska Spole Nost (SPVS), has been acquired by Ondeo<br />

Services. SPVS serves 40 towns and districts in the North East with a total turnover of €6 million per<br />

annum. Ondeo serves 2.3 million people in the Czech Republic and had a 2000 turnover of €138<br />

million.<br />

Russian Federation<br />

2004 Moscow 13 year BOOT 1 million water treatment<br />

EVN’s WTE awarded the BOOT contract to Degrémont in June 2004. The 275,000m 3 per day plant<br />

will provide potable water to South West Moscow from 2007, and be operated by Degrémont and<br />

WTE until 2017.<br />

Germany<br />

In Germany, Suez operates via Eurawasser. In 2002, Suez bought out Thyssen AG’s 51% stake in<br />

the JV. Eurawasser had a turnover of €75 million in 2001 and serves 600,000 people.<br />

2004 Cottbus 25 year partnership 147,000 water & sewerage<br />

Eurawasser acquired 28.9% of Lausitzer Wasser in February 2004. The town of Cottbus retains<br />

50.1% of the company with the balance being held by local municipalities. <strong>Water</strong> will be supplied to<br />

102,000 people in Cottbus and 45,000 in surrounding areas, along with sewerage services for 117,000<br />

people. <strong>Water</strong> revenues are €12 million for water supply and €16 million for wastewater per annum.<br />

1992 Rostock 25 year concession 302,000 water & sewerage<br />

Rostock was the first major concession awarded to a private sector consortium in Germany. It forms<br />

part of the 1991 Baltic Action Plan for reducing effluent discharges into the Baltic Sea. Eurawasser’s<br />

work on the first phase of the Rostock wastewater treatment facility was completed for €130 million in<br />

1995. Total capital spending over the life of the contract will be approximately €460 million. 302,000<br />

served for sewerage and 262,000 for water.<br />
