Saudi Arabia<br />

Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company<br />

The Saudi Arabian Amiantit Company (SAAC) was founded in Dammam, Saudi Arabia in 1968. It<br />

specialises in manufacturing piping products for water, liquids, oil and industrial applications. <strong>Water</strong><br />

and wastewater operational contracts have been developed through its subsidiary Ami<strong>Water</strong>, which<br />

has acquired 100% of the equity of AquaMundo. Amiantit seeks to become one of the top ten leading<br />

companies in the world that provide drinking water and waste water services. Ami<strong>Water</strong> has three<br />

principal subsidiaries: AquaMundo GmbH (Germany), InfraMan GmbH (Austria) and OMC (Thailand).<br />

In February <strong>2005</strong>, Ami<strong>Water</strong> formed Tawazee, a joint venture with Saudi Industrial Services (SISCO)<br />

for water service contracts in industrial cities in Saudi Arabia. They are currently bidding for water<br />

service contracts for First Industrial City, Jeddah and Second Industrial City, Riyadh,<br />

Inframan<br />

InfraMan GmbH, a subsidiary of the Ami<strong>Water</strong> Group is responsible for the provision of services in<br />

operation and management of water supply companies. InfraMan is based in Austria, providing<br />

management services for water supply, sanitation services, and hydropower.<br />

Amiantit claims to serve 5 million people globally, although details of other projects are not currently<br />

available. According to Amiantit in 2004, Ami<strong>Water</strong> is already operating or developing projects in<br />

Albania, Italy, Moldova, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand, along with projects that are under<br />

development in Azerbaijan, Indonesia, India, China, Romania, Ukraine, Peru and Guatemala<br />

Russia<br />

Two 25 year joint ventures were announced in 2003. In each case, Inframan holds 51% of the<br />

project’s equity and is responsible for managing the water and wastewater services.<br />

2003 Balashicha 25 year, O&M 150,000 water & wastewater<br />

Revenues for the contract will be US$20 million. The town’s population increases to 250,000 during<br />

the summer as a holiday destination.<br />

2003 Dimitrovgrad 25 year, O&M 100,000 water & wastewater<br />

This contract has a budget of US$10 million and includes extending the water distribution system for<br />

an additional 12,000 people.<br />
