construction contracts, handing over the facilities to a local partner after its construction.<br />

Austria<br />

2004 Zistersdorf 3 + 25 year BOT 9,000 wastewater<br />

During 2004, WTE Austria took over the operation of a wastewater treatment plant and sewerage<br />

system in Zistersdorf, Lower Austria. The plant is currently being refurbished at a cost of €12 million<br />

and is designed to serve around 9,000 inhabitants. This work will be completed by the beginning of<br />

2007.<br />

Germany<br />

1993 Altenburg 10 + 10 year BOOT 60,000 sewerage<br />

The city’s WWTW was constructed in two phases between 1993 and 1995, with a BOOT contract<br />

running to 2003. This contract was renewed for another 10 years in 2003.<br />

2002 Windeck 25 year BOOT 21,000 water & sewerage<br />

Windeck is in North Rhine Westphalia. The contract involves managing and operating the<br />

municipality’s water and sewerage services, including the construction of a new WWTW. The<br />

operational contract started in January 2003 and the construction phase runs to the end of <strong>2005</strong>. €37<br />

million will be spent on capital projects.<br />

2003 Langnese-Iglo 14 + 7 year O&M Industrial wastewater<br />

Langnese-Iglo GmbH, is Europe’s largest ice cream facility in Heppenheim. The WWTW handles<br />

1,600m 3 of effluent per day, reducing its COD loading by 91%.<br />

Croatia<br />

2000 Zagreb 28 year BOT 0.75 million sewage treatment<br />

This is the largest sewage treatment concession award in central and eastern Europe to date,<br />

involving €200 million in capital spending. The project scope includes design, construction and<br />

operation of the wastewater treatment plant (1 million PE) and the administration facilities,<br />

construction of the main collecting pipeline (9.8km) and coverage of main drainage canal (5.5km).<br />

The concession company, Zagrebacke otpadne vode d.o.o (ZOV), is formed by RWE Aqua (48.5%),<br />

WTE Wassertechnik GmbH (48.5%) and the City of Zagreb (3%). Construction began in July 2002<br />

and will be completed between April 2004 (mechanical treatment) and <strong>2006</strong> (biological treatment). On<br />

completion, the facility will have a PE of 1.5 million.<br />

Russian Federation<br />

1998 Moscow 11 year Build, O&M 0.25 million sewage treatment<br />

A WWTW covering new housing estates in the district of South Butowo. The contract covers the<br />

construction of the facility and its operation until 2011.<br />

2000 Moscow 12.5 year Build, O&M 0.40 million sewage treatment<br />

A 140,000m³ per day WWTW for the Zelenograd area of Moscow. The O&M element of the contract<br />

runs until 2013.<br />
