Central African Republic<br />

Operations and management of all water services in urban areas through SODECA.<br />

Senegal<br />

1996 Urban areas 10 year lease 3.8 million water management<br />

Operations and management for water provision services to 54 towns and cities (1.8million outside<br />

Dakar) through its 62.83% stake in Sénégalaise Des Eaux. Turnover was €67.5 million in 2004.<br />

Côte d’Ivoire<br />

1987 Abidjan 20 year concession 5.0 million water & sewerage<br />

SODECI has the O&M contract for water and sewerage services for Abidjan, the capital city. This is a<br />

renewal of the original 1959 concession. 5.0 million people are provided with water services, along<br />

with 1.5 million for sewerage. SAUR holds 48.9% of SODECI. Turnover was €74 million in 2003 and<br />

including the power activities rose by 11% to €410 million in 2004.<br />

Zambia<br />

2000 Copper belt O&M 300,000 water & sewerage<br />

The copper belt covers industrial towns in the north of Zambia.<br />

Mozambique<br />

1999 Major cities 5 + 15 year BOT 2.5 million water provision<br />

A concession linked to US$117 million of donor funding. SAUR holds 38.5% of Aguas de<br />

Mozambique, along with IPE-Aguas de Portugal (31.5%) and the Mazi-Mozambique consortium holds<br />

the remaining 30%. The concession covers water provision services to the Mozambique capital of<br />

Maputo, the country's second city of Beira and major provincial capitals of Quelimane, Nampula and<br />

Pemba. It also commercialises water services in Maputo's neighbouring industrial city of Matola and<br />

Beira's neighbouring city of Dondo. In the longer term, the contract will cover some 5million people.<br />

Mali<br />

2000 Urban areas 20 year concession 115,000 water provision<br />

A JV between SAUR International (39%) and IPS (Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, 21%),<br />

with the Government holding the remaining 40% has been awarded the concession to operate<br />

Energie de Mali (EdM). EdM had a €36 million turnover in 2003, compared with €96 million in 2001<br />

and is responsible for water distribution (€26 million in 2001) to 1.6 million people. Currently 8% of the<br />

population is connected to the water network, a figure which will be increased to 24% by 2020. 15,000<br />

people are directly covered by the contract and the rest through bulk water. 15,000 new connections<br />

have been made to date. The contract will eventually directly cover 800,000 people.<br />
