Australia<br />

2000 Brisbane DBO 60,000 sewage treatment<br />

Redcliffe (Brisbane) is a 15 year DBO, which came under control of the group in January 2000. The<br />

capital expenditure is about A$15 million and the operating expenditure is about A$1 million per<br />

annum. The plant is designed to handle 16Ml/day (60,000) and has two effluent quality levels. The<br />

first one (N-8mg/L and P-3mg/L) is to be effective from completion of the facility. The second (N-5mg/L<br />

and p-1mg/L) is scheduled to come in <strong>2005</strong>. Biosolids are to go to re-use as part of a mine<br />

rehabilitation scheme.<br />

2001 Wodonga 11.5 year DBO 70,000 sewage treatment<br />

In December 2001, AWI signed an 11.5 year DBO contract with North East <strong>Water</strong> for a 70,000<br />

population wastewater treatment plant at West Wodonga on the Murray River.<br />

China<br />

2000 Hexian 20 year JV, operate 630,000 water<br />

AWG has approximately 30 water construction projects, but this is the company’s first operating<br />

contract, which is to be run jointly with the Hexian <strong>Water</strong> Company. Hexian is in Anhui Province and<br />

the city’s water treatment facility is currently unable to produce potable water. On completion, the plant<br />

will be used to provide water to the surrounding area in addition to Hexian.<br />

2001 Beijing 3 year build and 20 year BOT 2.5 million water treatment<br />

The US$200 million facility will treat 500 million L per day and is the largest water treatment project<br />

awarded to the private sector during 2001. A further US$50-100 million in capital expenditure will be<br />

needed for related infrastructure. AWG bid with Mitsubishi of Japan, who have access to funds from<br />

the Japan Bank for International Co-operation.<br />
