Indonesia<br />

1997 West Jakarta 25 year concession 3.5 million water<br />

West Jakarta has an estimated 4.5 million people in total. Suez owns 95% of the Jakarta<br />

concession’s equity. The initial investment period was extended from 5 to 10 years in 2000, so as to<br />

prevent price rises after a 24% tariff rise in 1999. 50% of residents are currently connected, it is<br />

predicted this will rise to 100% by 2022, with 80% paying. Jakarta’s population is expected to rise<br />

from 9.5 million to 12.5 million by 2020, with the West Zone population rising to 6.7 million.<br />

1997 Medan 25 year BOT 2.5 million bulk water<br />

US$85 million BOT for drinking water supply plant for Medan. It is 85% held by Suez. There are<br />

currently 2.5 million people in the city. The water supply for Phase 1 will be 170,000m 3 per day by<br />

2000, increasing to 260,000m 3 per day. Turnover will be US$2 billion over the contract’s life, or<br />

US$80 million per annum. Medan’s population is expected to grow to 8 million+ by 2015 (currently,<br />

the city has a population of 2.5 million). Suez has operated a water contract in the industrial zone of<br />

Cilegon, Java since 1993.<br />

Malaysia<br />

1993 Johor-Barhu 20 year BOT contract 715,000 water supply<br />

Johor-Barhu involves the lease of a water provision facility generating 0.63 million m³ of potable water<br />

per day. Suez holds 25.5% of the holding company Equiventures Sdn. Bhd., which is expected to<br />

seek a market listing in due course.<br />

1995 Kota-Kinabalu 20 year BOT contract 500,000 water supply<br />

In Kota Kinabalu (province of Sabah), a 20 year bulk supply concession for 0.24 million m³ of water<br />

per day to 0.5million people was granted to Jetama Sdn. Bhd. 35% of which was held by Suez in<br />

1995. After its privatisation in 1995, Sabah’s water systems were to be completely upgraded.<br />

1989/95 Taiping, Perak 20 year BOT contract 350,000 water supply<br />

In Perak, G.S.L. <strong>Water</strong> Sdn. Bht. (34.2% Suez) serves 0.35 million people via a 20 year BOT<br />

contract signed in 1988 and started in 1989. The contract was extended when a 0.11 million m³ per<br />

day water treatment plant was commissioned in 1995.<br />

Australia<br />

1993 Sydney 25 year BOO 3.5 million water treatment<br />

1996 Noosa 25 year BOT 45,000 wastewater<br />

Australian <strong>Water</strong> Services (AWS) is a JV between Suez and Lend Lease Pty formed by Suez in 1991.<br />

The Sydney water provision BOT signed in 1993 saw the US$200 million facility enter service in<br />

October 1996. AWS has now entered the 25 year operating concession phase, operating the facility’s<br />

3,000 ml per day capacity. A BOT concession for Noosa, Queensland was gained in 1996. <strong>Water</strong><br />

revenues for Suez in Australia in 2004, was €30 million.<br />

<strong>2005</strong> Perth 25 year BOT 1,500,000 water<br />

In April 2004, Perth’s Western Australia <strong>Water</strong> Corporation chose Degrémont and Multiplex<br />

Engineering to design, build and operate Perth's first reverse osmosis desalination plant. The 25-year<br />

contract 140,000 m 3 per day facility contract represents total revenues of over €385 million for<br />

Degremont, €85 million in construction work and €300 million for operational work.<br />

New Zealand<br />

Activities in New Zealand are carried out under New Zealand <strong>Water</strong> Services, an affiliate of Australian<br />

<strong>Water</strong> Services. Other projects include building the Auckland wastewater treatment plant, serving 1.2<br />

million people from <strong>2005</strong>.<br />
