Colombia<br />

In January 2004, the city of Bogota unilaterally ended the 1997 Saltire WWTW contract, which had<br />

served 1.5 people.<br />

China<br />

Suez has a total of 16 major contracts for rehabilitating and expanding current water treatment works.<br />

Suez now serves approximately 12.9 million people in China via Sino-French Holdings (S-FH), which it<br />

operates jointly with New World Development Co. Ltd. of Hong Kong. Ondeo manages €800 million<br />

per annum of operations in China in 2003, up from €300 million in 2000. Degrémont has completed<br />

132 water and sewage treatment construction contracts in China, having been operating in China<br />

since 1975, and is responsible for 20% of China’s water and wastewater treatment facilities.<br />

2004 Tianjin 35 year O&M, S-FH 0.85 million bulk water supply<br />

The RMB470 million (€57 million) water treatment plant is to serve part of the city of Tianjin. The<br />

Tianjin Tanggu Sino-French <strong>Water</strong> Supply (S-FH), is a 50:50 joint venture between the city and S-FH.<br />

The facility will have a treatment capacity of 310,000m 3 per day.<br />

2002 Chongqing 50 year concession 700,000 water<br />

2002 Qingdao 25 year BOT 2,300,000 water<br />

Two WTW's in Chongqing are to be refurbished and expanded for a total cost of €150 million. The two<br />

plants can handle 275,000m 3 of water a day and can be expanded by a further 100,000m 3 /day.<br />

Likewise, two WTW's in Qingdao are to be refurbished and expanded for a total cost of €430 million.<br />

The two plants treat 540,000m 3 of water per day.<br />

2001 Panjin 30 year BOT 267,000 bulk water<br />

2001 Xinchang 30 year BOT 135,000 bulk water<br />

2004 Sanya 30 year O&M 300,000 water<br />

Suez and New World Group, via S-FH, operate three water treatment works in Hainan delivering a<br />

total of 230,000m 3 /day of water for €36 million and managing them on behalf of the city. The system<br />

will be 50% held by S-FH and 50% by the municipality’s Hainan Tianya <strong>Water</strong> Industry Holding Co.<br />

The Sanya contract started in 2004.<br />

2000 Zhengzhou 30 year BMO, S-FH Bulk water supply<br />

2000 Baoding 20 year BMO, S-FH Bulk water supply<br />

The contracts for Zhengzhou (Henan) and Baoding (Hebei) were announced in March 2000. They will<br />

serve a total of 1.7million people, with US$62 million being spent on capital works for facilities<br />

delivering 560,000m 3 of water per day and generating a turnover of US$500 million over the contracts’<br />

life.<br />

1999 Changtu 30 year BMO, S-FH 0.3 million bulk water supply<br />

1999 Wanzhou 30 year BMO, S-FH 0.5 million bulk water supply<br />

1998 Zongshan 22 year BMO, S-FH 1.7 million bulk water supply<br />

The contracts for the provinces of Changtu (Chongqing) and Wanzhou (Liaoning) were formally<br />

awarded in April 2000, and involve a total of US$35 million in capital spending. These contracts will<br />

generate US$400 million in turnover during their lives. Zongshan is in the Guangdong province. The<br />

town and surrounding areas has 1.5 million people. The contract is to seek to provide water by<br />

expanding the current capacity of the two extant plants from 0.7 million m 3 per day to 1.3 million m 3<br />

per day. 66% of the Zongshan contract is held by Sino-French Holdings, with the remainder in<br />

municipal hands. Revenues will be in the region of F100 million per annum. Degrémont carried out<br />

the engineering work and the extended facility entered service in 1999.<br />

1997 Lianjiang 30 year O&M, S-FH 0.3 million bulk water supply<br />

Lianjiang is in the Guangdong Province, with 1.3 million inhabitants, 70% of whom are currently<br />

served with potable water. The project involves US$15 million in Capex for the upgraded potable<br />

water treatment plant, which is being built by Degrémont.<br />
