2001 Görlitz Acquisition (74.9%) 80,000 municipal services<br />

Saxony’s Stadwerke Görlitz had a DM120 million (€61 million) turnover in 2000. It provides waste<br />

management, water, sewerage, energy and public transport services to the town.<br />

2003 Gera 10 year BOT 165,000 water & wastewater<br />

The contract is with the municipality of Gera in Thuringia. Total revenues for the contract will be €130<br />

million.<br />

2004 Braunschweig 10 year BOT 250,000 water & wastewater<br />

Veolia <strong>Water</strong> acquired 74.9% of Braunschweiger Versorgungs AG (BVAG) in December 2004 for<br />

€372.5 million. The company manages water and wastewater services for the city in Lower Saxony.<br />

The company will generate revenues of €270 million per annum from <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

Belgium<br />

2001 Brussels 20 year BOOT 1.1 million sewage treatment<br />

Construction of the Brussels North STW is due to start during 2003, with completion in <strong>2006</strong>. The<br />

contract is worth a total of €1 billion over its life, including €290 million in Capex and a fee of €49.6<br />

million per annum for the Aquiris consortium.<br />

Sweden<br />

2001 Norrtalje 10 year ‘concession’ 50,000 water & wastewater<br />

The turnover over the life of the contract will be €25. This is the first water PPP in Sweden.<br />

Norway<br />

2003 Oslo Construction/operation option <strong>Water</strong> treatment<br />

This is to be the largest water treatment plant in Norway, serving some 250,000 people and costing<br />

€73 million in total. There is an option for a 20 year operations contract worth €102 million.<br />

Italy<br />

Until <strong>2005</strong>, VE was effectively engaged in managing a portfolio of operating contracts and strategic<br />

stakes. The <strong>2005</strong> acquisition of Enel Hydro, has more than compensated for the decision to sell its<br />

stakes in the two Genovan water companies to Amga<br />

Acquisition of Enel Hydro<br />

75% of Siciliacque, the entity running Sicily's water distribution system was sold to a VE and Enel joint<br />

venture in 2004 for €299 million. The 40 year concession starts in 2004 and calls for investments of €1<br />

billion, including €300 million in the first decade and reducing leakage from 30% to 12%.<br />

Enel’s water activities were sold to Veolia for €36 million in May <strong>2005</strong>. Enel Hydro SpA provides water<br />

to 6.1million people, mainly through Idrosicilia SpA which provides water management services in<br />

Sicily. VE acquired 100% of Enel Hydro in the deal, along with 20% of Idrosicilia and an option for<br />

Enel’s remaining 40% stake in the latter company.<br />
