BOC Group Plc<br />

The BOC Group Plc (BOC) specialise in the manufacture and distribution of gasses for industrial and<br />

Government customers. BOC’s Process Gas Solutions is being developed to offer a range of services<br />

to industrial clients. The division accounted for 28% of BOC’s 2004 turnover and 33% of its operating<br />

profit.<br />

In October 2002, BOC acquired Environmental Management Corp, a privately held St. Louis-based<br />

water services company, for US$50 million, with a further US$10 million payable if certain<br />

performance conditions are met over five years. Environmental Management Corp, which had<br />

revenues of some $40 million in 2001, manages water and wastewater treatment facilities for both<br />

industrial and local municipal customers around the US. BOC Process Gas Solutions aims to expand<br />

EMC’s client base through its established relationships in the industrial sector. EMC serves municipal<br />

clients with populations ranging from 5,000 to around 200,000. Turnover was marginally up during<br />

2004, with the company operating at break-even. Major contract gains have been made in the animal<br />

food sector in the USA.<br />
