However, it is <strong>in</strong> <strong>Ta<strong>in</strong>o</strong> archeology where we f<strong>in</strong>d our connection <strong>to</strong> this <strong>Ta<strong>in</strong>o</strong><br />

The duhos were <strong>the</strong> traditional sits <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> caciques. In fact, <strong>the</strong>y were<br />

considered part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cacique’s most valuable possessions. Accord<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> Oviedo, only<br />

caciques sat <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>se duho 163 <strong>and</strong> were considered <strong>of</strong> such a great importance, that <strong>the</strong>y<br />

were usually buried <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> chief, along with his riches <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> most beloved<br />

<strong>of</strong> his wives, which <strong>the</strong>y called a<strong>the</strong>beane nequén 164 . Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, duhos are<br />

common across Caribbean archeology.<br />
