As observed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pictures, <strong>the</strong>re seem <strong>to</strong> be some shared artisanal elements<br />

between <strong>the</strong> Guanahatabey <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ciboney specially when it comes <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

implementation <strong>of</strong> shells as <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> source for artifact construction. The <strong>Ta<strong>in</strong>o</strong>, on <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r h<strong>and</strong>, show dist<strong>in</strong>ctive manufactured objects <strong>and</strong> have more elaborate pottery <strong>and</strong><br />

figur<strong>in</strong>es. The presence <strong>of</strong> elaborate elements is not <strong>to</strong>o common among Guanahaní<br />

or Guanahatabe archeology. However, what is important for this study is that <strong>the</strong><br />

word Guanahatabey was used by Bernal Diaz <strong>in</strong> his text prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ental<br />

exchange as a non-Mayan, non-Nahuatl group <strong>of</strong> conquered people among <strong>the</strong> Spanish.<br />
